Hi. Do the tax authorities provide a certificate of tax residency? This is a document where the TW tax authorities state that I am a TW resident for tax purposes and that I am liable to pay tax in TW on worldwide income.
You can download the application form below, but I think you might have to apply in person. I suppose it’s possible they might accept applications by mail, but you’d have to check.
You need your passport and I guess your ARC if you have one. The guy at the Taipei tax office was fine with me emailing him a photo of my passport though (because I hadn’t brought it).
Hi. Thanks for the reply. Sorry to disturb one last time. I downloaded and filled in the MS Word file, but i do not have a printer. This is a high tech country, but i’m quite a tech dinosaur. Can i print this at the tax office premisses or at some convenience store? Or should i just bring the file saved on a pen drive or on the smart phone to the tax office? Also, what’s the address of the tax office where we hand this in? I’m in Taoyuan, but i can go to Taipei no problem. Thanks.
Yes. Like @qwert_zuiop said, you can print it at the Ibon machine in any 7-11. A pen drive is okay, or you can also email the file to ibon@ibon.com.tw and scan the QR code it sends back. The machine is pretty self-explanatory for printing (if only because printing is one of the few functions they bothered translating into English).
This looks to be the Taoyuan tax office (just from Google Maps, I’ve never been):
Hi! I printed at 7-11 by the method suggested, handed it in at the local tax office and they said they’ll call me to pick it up within a week or two. All very smooth and quick process. Thanks y’all for the great help.
