Taxes with spouse visa

Hi all,

I am going to marry a Taiwanese this year, Taiwan is my permanent residence. That means I will be allowed to work different jobs, possibly freelance. Does anyone have experience with how to handle taxes as a freelancer for foreign and/or local companies? Anything I need to consider for documentation except payment receipts and invoices?

Also, I heard that in the first year you can chose between doing taxes separate and together. Any pros and cons? After that one of us has to hand in the taxes together and has to be “represent” the other. Any experience with that and who to chose?

I am thankful for any insights.

Cheers

I’d take the advice of the people in the tax office, in my experience they are willing to tell the best way to file the taxes in your interests. It might be to file jointly under your wife, but either way they should be able to tell you.
