Any advice on a teaching more advanced younger kids (grade2-3) on a reading comprehension.
Should you teach them any vocabulary or just read, discuss and then practice what they have learnt?
I have a class in this age group who read abridged novels. We scan the daily required reading for vocab they don’t know, I ask them the definition of words I think they don’t know. Then, we read and finish up with me asking questions from the reading with the first kid to 3 correct answers getting to skip reading next class and the next kid to 3 getting to read first next class. Seems to work. The time flies and the kids are chomping at the bit for question time.
Thanks for the info. I will be doing a demo and actually haven’t taught kids this age who are advanced.
