Musk already gave up his pro America speech years ago. He has firmly laid in bed with the ccp and is about as hypocritical, egotistical and likely mentally ill as can be said. The time to hate him was a decade ago. Now it’s just sheeple piling on. So yesterday

Just kidding. Har, har. It is a bit sad to watch people hate him solely because Trump. He was horrible for many years prior, people were just too into themselves for owning a hackable car with a china loving boss trying to own space and put chips in your head. How could things possibly go wrong?

I’ll take it.

For me personally I’ve disliked him for a number of years, which i think is just a natural reaction after learning about his stupid projects like the traffic tunnels etc.

Kia EV9
Tesla Model X
Luxgen N7

According to Youtube reviews, the Kia EV9 has the most 3rd-row space out of those 3, and can comfortably fit 7 adults. Worth considering maybe?

I did went and see it. Not really liking the look of the KIA though inside was nice.

Luxgen my wife doesnt want from past bad experiences.

I wish the Rivian RS1 would be available here. Drove one in US and really liked it.

Someone in my apartment’s garage has a Kia EV9. It’s absolutely huge.
The price is a bit silly here through, comparable to Model X - where as in the US it’s much cheaper. At the same price point, might as well get a Tesla.

The N7 is selling well and has apparently saved the company. Not sure of the quality as it’s still quite new.

Big advantage, the highest trim 7-seater N7 only costs $1.3m NTD; cheaper than even a hybrid Toyota RAV4! Big disadvantage, the 3rd row can only fit kids.

This MAGA guy likes EVs but refuses to outfit his US home with a ridiculously expensive charger and considers them to be less than practical without one. A second major objection is resale value, which is more than disappointing. A third would be battery replacement cost, which in all cases exceeds the EV’s market value (as far as I know).

Guess it’s easier to write that I like them but I think of them as not much more than an expensive toy.

I didn’t know that about home chargers. One poster above mentioned that he charges his EV at work. He lives in Taiwan.

In the US the charger alone is $~30k. Add in getting a residential contactor’s permit for garage alteration and charges for a licensed electrician, and maybe a carpenter, and it gets stupid expensive in my book.

It’s $420 USD in the US for a level 2 home charger. Many homes have the breaker box in the garage already. If you have a home built in the last 40 years installing a home charger is a non issue. Electrician can knock it out in 1 hour.

Why is it 30k? For a level 2 charger? It’s basically little more than wires and contactors, and some circuitry to interface with the cars electronic so it decides whether to close the contactor or not. The ac current goes to the car and the car handles the charging. There’s even level 1 chargers that you plug into a standard 110 socket, slow as hell but better than not charging.

30k sounds like a level 3 charger. Those are different.

It’s been a couple years since I looked into it, and my recollection could be off. Without going back and relearning, I may have a figure stuck in my head for a supercharger (?- sorry, I don’t even remember the lingo now). It’s possible 30k was only for that.

My takeaway was that an EV made no financial sense even without considering the cost of a home charger. In the US it would be an expensive toy, and not much more for me.

ETA: I do like EVs, though. The ride, the simplicity, the software updates, the quietness.

The regular (i.e. non-launch ) variants of the new Model Ys have been released in Taiwan:

Rear wheel drive: 517km, $1.89m
Long-range: 603km, $2.29m

Note, the default color in now night-gray; other color paints cost $37k - $93k.

Good ones start at around $400. Installation isn’t complicated if you want to do it yourself, if not, depends on how much the guys around you want to screw you over - the price deltas between licensed electricians are insane ime. Cost me under $1k for a hardwired tesla charger, installation, and a 240V out (for welder / sporadic use of plug in charger) run separately to another garage.

The fuck you talking about?

You trying to install a commercial DC charging station in your garage or somethign?

See above.

I think prices were coming down in my area (for chargers anyway), but I haven’t looked since last November.

Since then the program for building out public chargers has been killed (not sure about impoundment of remaining funds, if any), Tesla seems to have become a dirty word with those most likely to buy one (hating on Musk), and last I checked EVs are third on the list of platforms preferred by US buyers (gas, hybrid, EV).

So I doubt chargers are coming down in price anytime soon … but honestly I pay almost zero attention.

They haven’t dropped from $30k to $400 since last Nov. ;D

Toyota Taiwan have announced the latest release of the bZ4X, their fully electric SUV.

Interesting part - they’ve reduced the price to $1.36m NTD. This is not only significantly cheaper than the Tesla Model Y, but it’s also cheaper than their top-spec RAV4.

Toyota are also claiming 626km of range, BUT according to reviews it gets no where near this

The bZ4X gets average reviews, but it’s possibly worth considering due to Toyota’s famed reliability. Plus they’re doing some cheap financing deals.

It will probably sell better than the swasiticar.

Hope so. The Tesla brand is really damaged now.

It’s also good to see the price of electrics cars coming down
