TGI Fridays

Is TGI Friday’s still going in Hsinchu?
Last time I was there (Jan/Feb time) it was shut with all the signage removed. I’m not sure if it was just being renovated or if it was closed for good.
When I’m in Hsinchu and get a craving for western food, I usually head there for a burger.

To answer my own question; TGIs has gone, replaced by a California pizza kitchen.

Nobody lives in HsinChu anyways

Well, CPK isn’t bad, just really expensive, even pricier than Fridays.

aww…

Aw what a shame - all over the world, Fridays has gone bankrupt, so they killed off about 80% of their menu to save $$ while they can still stay open.

I thought Fridays was individually owned in Taiwan at first until they also changed to the “high profit, common ingredients only” menu. My fav dishes and desserts are gone; RIP. The menu used to be huge, now it’s just a few items.

Some of the veggies felt microwaved last time I went there, too, so even veggies feel cheapened.

Oh no, not fancy Applebee’s!

Chilli’s is better in most places, except TianMu (they microwave their broccoli :face_vomiting: calling them out), but yeaaa… Fridays isn’t amazing but I have a weird love for it. My wife, too. GBA Is the upgrade that’s superior, but sometimes I love Fridays. Maybe it’s reminiscent memories. Or excessive salt.

Serves them right for giving me 6 nacho’s.

Did they throw in that unnecessary apostrophe as compensation?

More seriously, I wonder if and how @maoman would help us understand what’s going on here. How could that place possibly be unprofitable?

To me, Texas Roadhouse is way better of an experience, in every way. TGI Fridays here has been pretty awful, having been there twice now. Expensive food yet also pretty bad taste, compared to back home.

Nachoes?

They are named after Nacho, who invented them. So, perhaps Nacho’s is right?

I can’t get no sleep.

Famous for his queso. Without the apostrophe it’s Nacho cheese, no matter how much you want it.

I’m here all week, please tip your server.

Friday’s has the best cocktails. I don’t know how they do it… I guess they’re all loaded with sugar. But that’s the real reason I like going there. The ribs and fajitas are okay compared to what’s available in Taiwan too.

There were once California Pizza Kitchens here?? Aw man…. Missed the boat on that one, I guess.

I think just one, in Xinyi Vieshow - same building as the movie theatres. It only lasted a few years. Around 2013 to 2016?

Even in those three to four years, I ate there more than I ever have in Taiwan’s TGIFs. Probably about the same as Chili’s in total (but haven’t been to one of those in quite a few years), not as often as Gordon Biersch / GBA.

A couple of decades ago TGIFs was about it if you wanted Tex-Mex-ish food, or at least it was where I went when I visited Taipei from Tainan. Not unlike Alleycat’s a decade later: good in comparison to what was available at the time. But the international selection is significantly better now.

Their cocktails are way too sweet for my taste.
