I like this way of thinking, it appeals to my scientific mind. Now, how is the subject of gender being discussed? Is the west now trying to tell children they can choose their gender? Can people really choose their gender? and if not, why would we be teaching children they can?

This is a tough one.

I have a friend in LA whose son was taught by his insane ex wife from a young age he was really a girl. From day one crazy mom dressed him up as a girl. She sought counseling from an endless number of counselors, and I’m sure you can imagine that in LA it’s not hard to find someone that will tell you that insisting your son is boy is a male patriarchal oppressive construct.

Then it turns out that one doctor, a reputable one prob from Mayo clinic, etc. actually confirms that the kid is a woman by ‘nature’.

How this is determined I have no idea. From my perspective, crazy ex wife messed the kid up. But without a second version of that kid as a test case living a parallel life with a different set of parents/circumstances, we’ll never know.

I’m not sure western education is teaching people it’s bad to be CIS (although im sure some extreme left is) and I’m guessing most ed is along the lines of treat them fairly and guarantee their rights.

Has AOC defined her position on gender ? I’m not sure ? Equality , yes , but I don’t know if her religious views may conflict with some ideas ? Not sure ?

Nope…just that some things that we see every day have different meanings from different perspectives , and we have to just try and work it all out somehow.
How many times have you seen this logo ?

Many people miss part of it’s logo message …not anyone’s fault …but we get the general idea of the message anyway .
I used to miss the “arrow” between the E and the X.

Do you want equal rights for everyone or do you endorse affirmative action?

Do you believe a person is innocent until proven guilty, or a safe space needs to be provided for women who accuse men of sexual assault and remove them from campus.

Do you think a company should operate under non discriminatory policies of not discriminating against a persons race, religion, sex, or think it’s more important to fill their diversity quota ?

With all but the last case, sorry to say it but I can you blame them? This is prob an example of the entitled right operating under the assumption that their word is the last word, and if people are resistant to them, it must be liberal bias and not caused by their own behavior, beliefs etc. These aren’t exactly groups with the best track records and all have either anti-science agendas and/or political motivation to defund/discredit academia. It’s probably hard to work with them.

this seems like a blanket statement re sociologists. Are these assumptions presumed, or are they scientific and being presented as assumptions or controversial (the right at times have a way of presenting scientific fact as opinion when they don’t like what the facts say )

So pervasive is the lack of balance in academia

a good chance this is the authors opinion

that more than 1,000 professors and graduate students have started Heterodox Academy, an organization committed to increasing “viewpoint diversity” in higher education. The end result is that objective science becomes problematic, and where research is problematic, teaching is more so.

More viewpoints would not affect objective scientific outcomes. This is a red flag here in terms of this author.

Some topics are better left to empirical testing and first hand scientific inquiry rather than learned via books or second hand accounts.

Well the only issue with empirical evidence , is that one has to have a fair cross section of examples and experiences . The issue is universal , not just in The USA. Teachers there have similar concerns . The Guardian in left leaning , if it matters but some thoughts …

Both. You’re presenting a false dichotomy.

I’d need more context as I don’t know the particulars of the latter case. I know this was a shitty situation in Japan. They had all the pervy guys on the train molesting teenage girls (chikan) and it was rampant and shitty, so they created Women’s only cars.

There were two problems that arose:

a. once accused of being pervy on the train, it ruined or damaged the careers of people accused that didn’t do it unfairly, and
b. people complained that women’s only cars in a way made it seem like the mens behavior was something to accomodate for
c. nobody paid attention to it anyways

I’d say just the fact that it’s being presented as taboo behavior is good though. There isn’t any more sexual assault on japanese trains anymore.

So short answer, I don’t think the men should be removed from their situations if not yet convicted.

I don’t believe in Quotas but this is a mischaracterization of affirmative action programs. I do think in the case of applicants being equally qualified, race can be considered as a determining factor. I have no problem with outreach programs to enlist minority group memebers that are underrepresented in industries. But in all cases more qualified applicants should be given positions regardless of race.
