The AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) thread

She needs her own, as most people probably cannot keep up with all her off-the-cuff remarks, and her twitter base is huge.
She has quite a load of initiatives she would like implemented.

Just today, she released a proposal on her New Green Deal.

https://apps.npr.org/documents/document.html?id=5729035-Green-New-Deal-FAQ

Here are the highlights:

-Upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency.
-End all traditional forms of energy in the next ten years.
-Ban nuclear energy within 10 years if possible.
-Meet 100% of power demand through clean and renewable energy.
-Build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary.
-Create millions of new jobs and mandate they all be unionized.
-Provide job training and education to all.

Ocasio-Cortez admits, “even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.”

Granted, a lot of them read good and would be great is someone’s magic wand instantly made them happen. However, take a look at how Taiwan cannot even get rid of nuclear energy AND coal energy at the same time as there’s nothing to replace them.

On a side note, Trump could rub salt in neocons’ wounds and say that all the money spent on Middle East wars/engagements since 911 might’ve made a decent down-payment on this.

She’s worth talking about, but her proposals aren’t. Seriously. It’s all just warmed over bolshie bullshit.

of course, but it’s like the Pocahontas thread. Need a place for her bat-crazy ideas.

like this one also today:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) on Thursday criticized U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and argued in support of undocumented Latinos in the United States, saying the latter cannot be “criminalized” on “Native” U.S. land because they are “descendants of Native people.”

The self-described Democratic socialist spoke on Thursday alongside several liberal groups, including MoveOn and United We Dream, a pro-immigration group that calls for ICE to be abolished. She repeatedly slammed ICE, claiming it “repeatedly and systematically violates human rights.”

The Office of Management and Budget’s 2010 Census Brief defines “Hispanic or Latino” as a “person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race,” per NTK Network.

It seems she didn’t like trumps speech lol

Build a wall that helps no one that costs taxpayers billions, gut social services to pay for tax breaks for his inner circle that laugh at you for supporting them, Double down on fossil fuels.

Which ideas are batshit crazy exactly? And even if these goals are unattainable, progress towards them will still benefit even if they’re not 100% attained.

You ever live in a border state?

Would they? Taiwan and Germany shut down Nuclear plants and we ended up just burning more coal lol. You can’t just make a bunch of list of goals and have no actual plan or rank things from most important to least. Or at least which one is most attainable for the best bang for you buck.

Does she know the costs of gov spending on these things? Or we just going to do it like France…working so nicely for them All these goals comes out of tax payer money.

She has proven time and time again, she doesn’t understand basic economics, how taxes work and how gov spending works. These are huge projects, give me like 1 thing attainable and how we are going to do it and we can talk. Right now it’s a wish list for santa. And for the millions of American living check to check, I doubt they will care about some of these things but still have to be burdened by getting taxed. Or you really believe in “free”?

ever heard of W. Edwards Deming?
The man who helped Japan manufacturing.
Read up on him if you haven’t.

lots of great management and planning quotes.
Here’s one:
“A goal without a method is nonsense.”

Or maybe:
“A leader must have knowledge. A leader must be able to teach.”

There is a plan. Do you know what it is? Have you actually looked at her platform at all?

Proven how? What’s her voting record? What proposals has she made? The person that doesn’t understand basic economics is you. I don’t believe in free. For some reason you insist on your tax money going to line Jared Kushner’s pockets instead of paying for infrastructure developments that would help Americans. If tax money is wisely allocated you can have nice stuff.

Give me money and i’ll make climate change go away is not a plan…

Her interviews…this plan lol.

You mean if tax money is collected from some, others can have nice stuff?

Come on, even democrats are laughing at this lol

I understand you want free things and don’t want to pay for them Andrew.

No you don’t. Can’t debate on topic and it shows with the cute attack on me instead of the actual “plan”.

Here, let me use Google for you. i just typed in AOC plan, and a lot of things came up. When you actually read the details and want to discuss them, let me know.

Is this using domestic sources for the most cost effective tenders?

What are the trickle down effects of job loss and retraining?

Not possible. Re-engineer the tech, sure.

Again, manufacturing sourced from where?

100 years to late for this to be cost effective. Ever heard of graft?

Why did Detroit collapse, again?

We live in the model for this, how is that working out?

Lots of jobs for recent immigrants here.

approx cost of border wall 8 to 70 billion dollars

Can you think of a better way to spend 8 to 70 billion dollars than a wall for nobody, bloated military expenditures, and a govt shutdown costing 12-20 million USD per hour to taxpayers?

If not, I think we know where the batshit can be found.

I’ve read the plan. I copied/pasted the link in the OP.
It’s all “let’s do everything we could if money grew on trees”. And of course, replace ALL buildings and houses in the US with new ones. Who’s gonna pay for all that? bahaha

There’s a lot of money in the US. It depends on priorities.

I’m sure you love health care and the HSR in Taiwan. Makes life better doesn’t it? I guess Taiwan can do it but the US can’t.

Trump has asked for $5B only, for the first year. No idea where you get your figures from, no idea what you mean by bloated military expenditures, and the shutdown did not cost 12-20 million $ per hour for American taxpayers.

This is max batshit crazy. Again, you asked for something batshit crazy, I gave you what you asked for (or pointed out that you had already listed it).

Illegal immigrants have estimated to cost 3- 13 billion, sometimes more in some studies. And it increases annually. So yeah, it seems to make sense we put a dent on this. I’m not 100% buying the wall is the best way sure. But it is a campaign promise that he said he would do if he was voted in. So I respect that he’s trying to follow through.
