The best Chinese dictionary for Android?

I’m using pleco. I’m actually pretty happy with it but more and more it is using the wrong pronunciation (PRC) for common words and its getting to be a headache. Especially during flash card practice.

Any other suggestions. I really need a more Taiwan-centric dictionary program.

I use Hanping. I’ve tried Pleco as well but prefer the former.

Han Ping? I’ll try it. Why do you prefer it?

Han Ping is not the answer. Still, the the majority of the words use the PRC pronunciation. Sometimes they will list in small print the Taiwanese version, but that doesn’t help me in the audio flash cards and tests or even reviewing the words.

If this were just a few words, I’d be ok. But this is happens a lot. either the tones or wrong or in the case of the word “garbage” the pronunciation is totally different. Is there a dictionary that has the Taiwan pronunciation as first choice?

I like the Pleco dictionary and have used it for years. Not sure about the flashcards, but for the regular dictionary part, the male voice seems to be more Taiwanese and the female voice is definitely PRC.

I care about the actual words said, and the pronunciation chosen for example… 垃圾 is in our android dictionary as lājī But everyone in Taiwan, and my Chinese learning books say lèsè.

A good proportion of the words that I need to learn have this drastic difference. I like Pleco and will continue it. But I do need a better dictionary with Taiwan based words. Taiwan is supposed to be the keeper of the Chinese language. They should produce a decent dictionary.

The best (primarily) monolingual dictionary for Android these days has been 萌典.

It has Taiwanese, Hakka, English, French, and German translations from other dictionaries, too, but most of the major perks are in the monolingual end. Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Hakka pronunciations are available, too.

moedict.tw is the URL mirror. It also attempts to divide terms from longer strings.

The Dr Eye app (pre-installed in Samsung phones in Taiwan) offers Taiwan audio pronunciation - with pinyin and bopomofo.

The app (like all Dr. Eye software in the past) is crap, but the dictionary itself is quite good.
