The Boiler Room

Not AT the happy hour. A lot of 'mosuns get uncomfortable around people talking business, and I’d like to go do some real socialising - haven’t been to a HH for months and all my going out has been work-related recently.

Please try to keep the events seperate. Perhaps it could be done somewhere beforehand?

Is a pub an appropriate place for this kind of thing anyway?

Thanks for organising this. It sounds interesting.

Ok, thanks for the feedback Loretta. AFAIK, this will be a get together that will let folks know about what support teams are like, how they work, the folks who are currently doing it in Taiwan and how newcomers can do it and be supported in their efforts.

Here I am! The one who Loretta and YC say will be posting on success teams. Sorry to not have posted sooner. I was trying to hammer out a concrete proposal that would meet the needs of everyone in the Boiler Room Community. Silly of me. That’s what the next meeting is for, right?

Many thanks to YC for the excellent written introduction on what success teams are and how they work.

Feb. 20th has been slated as an open meeting. Sorry - didn’t realize it conflicted with HH. It seems the energy of the two events are very different so holding them at the same time/venue probably wouldn’t be very helpful. I propose meeting from 2-4 then people can head off to HH afterwards. It’s possible there’s space in Zhonghe we can use. Will post during the week with details if that works out.

The purpose of this meeting will be to introduce people to the format of facilitated meetings and success teams and see how they work so they can make a decision as to whether they are interested in forming one.

A certified facilitator will guide this meeting. There are a few reasons for this - first, it will help keep the process smooth and organized for everybody; second, the facilitator can more clearly introduce the success team format; third, people will have a chance to understand more clearly what a facilitated success team meeting is like and if it’s something they’re interested in participating in.

As YC mentioned in his post, the facilitator is really the key person of the process and it’s not a position one can take on lightly. It requires dedication, preparation and commitment. Please be aware that if we choose to use this facilitator to guide our success teams, we will need to negotiate payment for her. The cost per person for the program I joined was a one time fee of $10,000 NT. To me it was worth it and I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about meeting any kind of goal. The success team I joined included eight meetings, two hours, once a week and materials. During that time, we learned how to organize ourselves to achieve our objectives and how to conduct meetings on our own.

For the record, I don’t have any financial interest in any of this. It’s just a system that worked well for me and it seems it could be of use to other Boiler Room members so I asked our facilitator to offer an introductory meeting for free and she agreed.

I will post during the week when things are clear on the Zhonghe venue for the 20th. Meanwhile, if anyone has any questions please send me an email or post here.

I’m going to unsticky this thread, and start a new one soon.

I’ve put up a bare bones site outlining what I would like this to become, and would appreciate feedback here - it’s a semi-forumosa project and it makes sense to use this forum rather than try and start a separate one.

Great idea.

I am personally looking for a mentor - more one on one attention. I have workshopped my business with many people and have written a business plan. Before I commence I would like to find someone who has been there and done that… is the Boiler Room for me?

PS - I am sure Mr Paco and a few other ‘successful’ foreigners in Taiwan had some sort of “Young Entrepreneurs Club” going… maybe a meeting at Mr Pacos place would be in order for the next Boiler Room??

Talked with the facilitator about the success team meeting for this Sunday. She has been in touch with Loretta and Yellow Cartman. It seems there’s a lot of energy around the Boiler Room and a lot that can happen - possibly success teams, possibly not; however it seems the time is not quite ripe for a meeting this Sunday and pushing the meeting is not what’s called for at the moment.

Stay tuned to this board for more information as things develop.

If any one is interested in pursuing this more directly, please contact the facilitator, Jane Lewis. Her email is janeelewis@gmail.com

Had a good chat with Jane Lewis yesterday. AWOL, you might try talking to her. We’ll work out a date for an idea party in the coming weeks.

Why not a formal idea party, followed by an informal gathering at a social venue? Participants could come to either or both.

The day after the Enspyre seminar, Sunday 6 March? That creates a weekend of business related stuff, which would be good for any out-of-towners who wanted to make a trip out of it.

Other suggestions? Stuff we can add? Better dates? whatever?

How does one get onto the mailing/discussion list that was mentioned?

I think for the moment people should just PM Loretta. This is being tied in with the Enspyre event which I think is good for most people to attend.

I’ve been too busy the past couple of weeks to get to the success team mail list set up myself. Maybe next week and then I’ll contact the folks individually or have people PM me in advance so I can send out the mail list invites to just the success team folks.

greetings,

great idea with the success team meetings!

i’d like to joinit at next possible chance; any scheduled in april or june 2005?
