Having just read “Bush’s Brain” last month, I was intrigued to come across the following article which I came across about the College Republicans. Trying to understand America’s currently evolving “civil war” between right and left makes a lot more sense after you’ve read this

What, you mean like Kerry-Edwards repeatedly and pointedly mentioning during Campaign 2004 that Dick Cheney’s daughter is a lesbian? Hey, did you know that Dick Cheney’s daughter is a lesbian? How nice of the Cheneys to support their lesbian daughter. Isn’t it amazing that Republicans like the Cheneys would support their lesbian daughter despite their party’s anti-homosexual agenda? Did you know that the Cheneys’ daughter is a lesbian? Oh, hey, did you hear that Cheney’s daughter likes bush? And by the way, the Cheneys’ daughter is a lesbian, in case you haven’t heard that already.

The difference is that Cheney’s daughter IS a lesbian. That’s different from falsely accusing an opponent of being gay.
Kerry and Edwards were trying to get Cheney to explain the contradiction of supporting and loving a gay daughter while pushing an anti-gay agenda. Cheney refused to offer an explanation of the contradiction.
