The Employment Gold Card Super-Thread

it’s unclear at the moment. How much time are you talking about?

About 6 months ago I was quoted 30 days being the max time limit that they would begin implementing once the passport submissions were allowed again. But then a month ago they told me there is no time limit. And others have pointed out that the legislation that passed stated there would be a 6-month time limit. So…I dunno?

The help desk told me to apply under finance anyway. Finance kicked it back too. This is exhausting and asinine.
They haven’t even started vetting my qualifications.

they have adjusted the category definitions during the past years, so maybe you do indeed now fit in to the finance field

Welcome to Taiwan. It only gets worse from here.

Nope

Does anyone know how to get your Passport a verified in the LA Taiwan Office?

I been calling for a few days. Emailed them a week ago at 2 different email addresses. Nothing. They don’t pick up the phone or respond to emails.

I even emailed the Gold Card staff in Tawain to help me and they said they cannot make appointments for me.

This is the hardest part of the application stage. I feel like just showing up there without a appointment.

Any advice what to do? I’m getting little frustrated with the final process.

My husband just went in-person to the LA TECO last week without an appointment. And the front-desk lady basically sent her away, saying that he has to mail it in. So he got his passport notarized and mailed it today by USPS Priority Mail. We’ll see how it goes.

Thank you for the info.

What form did he use for the passport notarization?

He didn’t use any “form”. He just mailed in 1) a copy of the notarized passport, 2) the passport submission notice (downloaded from the gold card portal), 3) proof of payment (receipt) for Gold Card application, 4) a cover letter explaining that this mail-in submission is for the last stage of the Gold Card application, which is to have his passport verified. He also explained that he went to the LA TECO in-person to do passport verification but was asked by the front-desk representative to mail it in.

Mail your passport to TECOLA. Include the Passport Submission form and the receipt, both can be downloaded from the application portal. I sent mine next day air. If you don’t include a paid return envelope, they’ll call you to come get your passport when it’s ready.
After mailing your passport, email the GC HelpDesk and ask them to put you on the NDC urgent list to get your passport inspected, if applicable. It was for me.
The GC Helpdesk was helpful in getting my name on the NDC list and when calling TECOLA, select to speak to the operator after choosing English. I believe it is 0. Then ask for GC person. I believe her name is Lebeck (It’s been a few months and my notes are back in the States). She told me it would take a week to verify my passport & that she would call me. This was on a Monday. She ended up calling me on Thursday afternoon to say come pick up tomorrow (Friday).
From there it took a week to get final approval and the Alien Resident Authorization form was available to download the next day.
Hope this helps & Good luck!!

Hi guys, this thread is super useful, thanks everyone for sharing your experience which help a lot while I was doing my gold card application, got a question on dependent visa.

If I got my gold card approved and could go to Taipei to pick up, is there any chance my wife and kid could go together with me (e.g. getting a special entry permit?) or I have to go first and they’d need to apply for a dependent visa in HK?

Thanks a lot

Congratulations!

I think this topic is explained here, and yes, it seems everyone can enter together (if you are not HK citizens):

How do I apply for Resident Visas for my dependents (i.e., spouse and children)? Applicants and their dependents are eligible for visa-exempt entry into Taiwan on the same day. Once applicants have obtained an Employment Gold Card after entry, their dependents may apply for a Resident Visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs or any of its Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan Offices 8-business days prior to the expiration of their stay.

However, I’m not sure how this “visa-exempt entry into Taiwan” looks like exactly, eg. how they exactly enter (especially during COVID time where visa exempt entry seems restricted).

Maybe directly ask the gold card help desk?

Or … are you and your family HK citizens? Then it seems a bit different:

I have just received an Employment Gold Card, can I enter Taiwan with my dependents? The Employment Gold Card Online Application Portal is only for the applicant to apply for the Gold Card and not for their dependents. Once the applicant’s application has been reviewed and approved, the accompanying family members can only apply after he/she enters Taiwan. According to Article 16, Item 2 of the Laws and Regulations Regarding Hong Kong & Macao Affairs , family members of the applicant who apply for residency separately must wait for the applicant to be granted entry and residence.

thanks! Yes we are HK citizens, so seems I have to go first… and yes will confirm with the gold card help desk

When do we receive an ARC? Is that only after we have entered Taiwan, quarantined, and then gone to pick up the Gold Card?

The Gold Card counts as an ARC. It‘s one of the four things it includes:

Four-in-One

  • Work Permit: Allows cardholders to seek employment freely, obtain employment at any time, work any part-time job legally, and freely change jobs.
  • Resident Visa: Long-term visa which allows cardholders to stay in Taiwan for more than 180 days.
  • Alien Resident Certificate: A physical ID card proving that you can live in Taiwan legally.
  • Re-entry Permit: Allows unlimited entry and exit from Taiwan (even during COVID-19).

Yes but I meant when do we actually receive it? Is it after the passport inspection and approval? Or will I not get it until I enter Taiwan, quarantine, and then pick it up?

Basically, is there anyway I can get the number and begin to utilize the ARC sooner than when I am allowed to physically pick up the card in Taiwan?

Might be a dumb question. Do I mail them my actual passport or a notorized copy of it? @babu1224 stated to mail in your passport and didnt mention a notorized copy.

Just want to make sure I do this correctly.

If you selected pickup in Taiwan then yes, that’s correct. If you selected to get it mailed to your TECO then it will get mailed there and you pick it up before going to Taiwan.

It is possible to get a friend to pick it up for you in Taiwan before you come if you want the ID number.
