The Employment Gold Card Super-Thread

To add on in regards to the hotel part, there is an FAQ regarding that:

If I stay at a hotel, how can I provide proof of residence?
If you want to provide the address of the hotel as your residence address, you must ask the operator to provide the accommodation certificate for at least half a year of stay.

If you are not able to provide a permanent address, it won’t be an issue, you can update your address on the application platform within 30 days of moving into your new residence.

Also check out the “How do I change my address?” FAQ for more detailed instructions on the process

Hi guys, I applied for Gold Card under Economy category. My application just changed from “Review by WDA” to “Consulting Ministry of Economic Affairs” today. The process has been smooth so far. They haven’t asked me for supplementary docs so I am assuming that my submission is complete.

I have an ARC but it will expire at 12/26. My question is do you guys think I can make it? I’m worried that I won’t. Can I apply for ARC job-seeking extension while waiting for the Gold Card process? Hope someone can respond to my situation. Thank you!

The NIA regulation says foreigners have to provide their new address within 15-30 days of moving, so that quote from the GC website is rather contradictory, since a foreigner could be living in different hotels all the time and there’s no regulation that says it’s not allowed. Anyway if the NIA doesn’t accept your change of address to a hotel and you have it in writing / have proof, then you should be able to use that to prevent a fine.

You’ll probably make it and if you don’t you probably can get a short extension.

Just to confirm, getting an extension means renewing ARC, is this not overlapping to the Gold ARC application? Can I process an ARC extension at the same time as processing the Gold card?

The emails don’t always come through, be sure to login and check the site manually on a regular basis to avoid unnecessary delays. :grimacing:

To answer my own question, I went to NIA and I was told that I cannot process 2 ARC applications at a time (ARC extension and Gold Card) so they suggested for me to wait until my current ARC’s expiration date, and if there’s no Gold Card update by then, that is the time I should cancel the Gold Card and ask for the extension. So I’m hoping to have my Gold Card approved before or on 12/26.

This sounds very strange to me.

As I recall, you cannot hold two ARCs concurrently. A later-issued ARC will cancel your previous ARC. An Employment Gold Card includes a resident permit/ARC, so your current ARC, extended or otherwise, will be cancelled when you receive the EGC.

But I don’t remember any rule that prevents you from applying for more than one ARC at the same time. Indeed, I distinctly remember many people in exactly your situation applying for an ARC extension before the current ARC expires while a Gold Card was being reviewed/processed. After the Gold Card issued, the extended ARC was cancelled.

It has been a while since I paid close attention to the minutiae of these matters. Things could well have changed.

I strongly suspect that the Gold Card Help Desk knows the current answers. Scroll down for their free Chat service during business housr.

Happens everywhere. Some members of this forum have lived here for decades and refused to learn Chinese.

That’s great, but it doesn’t mean the locals like it, and it doesn’t mean the guy trying to process your application has to cater to it, unless his boss tells him to.

Cannot expect people applying for GC to have learned Chinese before or after they lived in Taiwan. Peoples feelings are not laws. They might not like it, but that’s life.

I don’t know what the job requirements are for people who process GC applications. Maybe they are required to speak English, and if so they should speak to you in English.

Yes, it’s not a requirement to speak Chinese to live here, but I’m just saying, some Taiwanese people might not like that, which may influence their behaviour towards you.

Not saying it’s right, but people are people, and some people might choose to make things awkward for you.

They are not required to speak English. Most speak at least some. A few speak it pretty well. Kind of like the Taiwanese population in general.

“English is the lingua franca of the world…”

It’s not about us, it’s about Taiwan. Gold card holders are highly beneficial immigrants (or at least supposed to be, let’s ignore the shortcomings for now). If Taiwan wants those people, better make the transition from wherever they are now to here as seamless and as effortless as possible.

That said in my limited interactions with them everyone spoke pretty good English. So I think the government understands and tries to accommodate as much as possible.

I am a government budget analyst - would this fall under the econ category or finance. I read a while ago that pretty much anything goes for economic gold card as long as you meet the salary requirement, but I’m not sure if this is outdated.

Second, although my income is around NT$300,000/month, around half of my income is untaxed, and therefore doesn’t appear on a W-2. Will my application be rejected outright, or is there a case to be made for my untaxed income?

From what I read on this forum GC applications are processed very quickly. A few months at most to people getting approved in less than 8 weeks.

That was the idea, unfortunately many grifters use the GC only as an entry permit for very short stays here, they don’t contribute at all to the economy, don’t pay any taxes here and really do not benefit the country at all besides the GC application fee.

There a many good eggs in the basket, others just decent (I like to put myself here, at least I pay my full taxes here even if I could very easily got away with minimal, if no, tax burden and I am trying to change a few things with banks and gov) but unfortunately I see way too many entitled grifters.

Are you employed by the government or a private sector employer? If the latter, what industry is your employer in?

I believe there might be a case but this is the kind of question that the Gold Card Office Help Desk chat service is best positioned to answer. They will know what kinds of documents can be used in lieu of a W-2.

I strongly suspect your application is going to end up going through the NDC Special Case Review process. There is some information about this here couched in very bureaucratic language. You should add an extra 4-6 weeks of processing time to account for this. Gold Card help desk can probably explain more about this.

Apply! I think you chances are probably pretty good although you don’t fit neatly into any of the existing categories.

The former. I am employed by the government.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I’ll give it a shot and see what happens. I don’t plan to make the move until 6 months from now, so I think I’m still quite early to the application process. No worries on any additional processing time.

Hopefully, I can at least come back with feedback on the untaxed income question since that seems to be an uncommon situation in this thread.
