The English evolution of 錢都 hot pot

Over the past years I’ve noticed the English name change. It started as a literal translation “Cash City”, then a romanized version (not standard pinyin) “Chien Tu”, and now today I noticed “Cabbage City” on the window.

Just thought it was interesting. I wonder what’s next?

I was eating at a hot pot restaurant and found a used tissue. When pointed out, the owner came and stated it must have dropped in there by mistake, but as she was stirring pot to prove her point she uncovered about a a half a dozen soggy tissues and one of the disposable white spoons. Then the lady got extremely upset that I wanted a refund.

Ah, so 高麗菜 gaolicai is actually Chinese for “gesundheit.” It all makes sense now.
