I have watched them both, on tv of course, for several years. I see no reason why USA cannot make it into the quarters this year. And from there anything is possible, as I’m sure you well know.
Your blanket dismissal does not really add up. Give the newbies a break, why not , eh?

I wouldn’t mind giving newbies a break, but Iran, c’mon, they just have no football! it’d be like giving a chance to T&T, man, I am all for chances, but sometimes you can’t reach for the impossible.
BTW, I have an Excel sheet with all the games, dates and times and formulas that will automatically update each group when you imput the score after each game, so you know where each group is at all the time.
if you want it, PM me your email.
You are right, regarding that the top players of the big nations have more and more games in Champions League and so on it si more and more that they are simply to tired and powered out at the WC or EC. They just play not like they used to. This tendency was already shown the last big tournaments, maybe it breaks this year a bit and we see the football we should see.
Last WC I had to see on “strange” times while still beeing in Europe. The one before I just attendet live in France. That were 3 great weeks with some really great games I had the chance to see.
I’m pretty sure the games are going to be on cable here. I’ve been seeing adverts on the 年代 (nian dai) sport channel for ages now, so i assume they are going to be showing the games.
there’s a three week break in most teams’ game schedule before the cup, so hopefully not too many players will be burned out.
ginger, I still recall cheering the Dutch at foxy’s … great times.
We will see if it is enought. At least they play in Europe this time, so no bigger adjustments to different climate and time zone for most of the top players.
your link returns a blank page is it you or my browser? Can you check it please?
Yes, 1 month of rest for most of the players, there are still a few friendlies to play before the WC, but i am sure they’re gonna go easy so as not to get too many serious injuries.
The semi of the UEFA championship is tomorrow (1st leg) so that’s exciting two very very good game ahead. I can’t wait.
it has the schedule for all the games and the times so i’m assuming that will mean they have all the games on live which is probably going to mean not a lot of work gets done in june

OMG this is gonna be awesome!!! I am off during the whole month!!!
i recommend buying large quantities of anhydrous caffeine pills…its gunna be a long tough haul. btw the local coverage will be sure to do yr hid in…they shrink the action at random moments to show adverts (and i mean random ie cole crossing from the left on to the big lad crouches noggin’(great touch for a large man btw) and then here comes the legendary ad for xianggang jiao (been with us for 4 world cups already) so you cant see whether the big lad puts the header away.
btw in case no one else pointed it out england v germany final is not possible. england v germany semi is very likely.
my feeling: if rooney can stay calm and focused (ie not do a beckham vs argentina) blighty has a great chance. but im worried about owen’s lack of playing time and lack of back-up should he or rooney get injured. crouch will have a role as a sub. but who is your real cover? bent?
that midfield again: cole, lampard, gerrard, beckham…just wish jose would give wright-philips some playing time.
Oh oh oh, as probably the only Charlton supporter in Forumosa (leaping to conclusions here) I feel compelled to leap to Bent’s defense…but then again he is just a tad inexperienced at this level.
=-(
Can someone say something nice about a Charlton player, Curbs, or South London in general?

hey im a fulham supporter; u fancy season after season flirting with relegation and hoping al fayed doesnt pull the plug?
Favorites are still Brazil who has just an absolute disgusting amount of talent in their current team. Their only weakness is at the back since I don’t rate their defenders too much and Dida has been having a pretty poor season at Milan.
The teams I’m rooting for in this WC are Spain and Holland, both nations have flattered to deceive at major tournaments dispite having some of the most talented players.
The good news is that it seems like Van Basten has finally sorted the squad out and as another poster said earlier picking players of merit instead of big names. Previous dutch teams have been split apart due to racial tensions amoung the squad and it seems like moral is much better this time around. However in doing so the squad is lacking in experience and that includes the manager.
Spain on the other hand have a young and experienced squad with a great deal of talent. I would put them up there with Brazil if you’re judging sides on pure talent. However Spain is infamous for screwing up at major tournaments and it doesn’t help that Madristas don’t like the Catalans and the Basques hate everyone .
