The Jordan Peterson Thread

He hasn’t and he doesn’t.

So you’re suggesting that his monologues on the subject are just based on stuff he made up?

In any case he almost certainly knows more about it than most of the people in this thread. Disagree with him if you like, but the discussion gets a bit silly when people start claiming that he’s an unlettered idiot. He is (or was) a tenured professor. Yes, I know it’s perfectly possible to be an idiot and still get tenure, especially in the social sciences, but I think you need to produce something a bit better than a bald assertion if you think that’s the case here.

Peterson appears to be transitioning into…Willie Wonka?

Men who don’t have power or resources are more attractive?

There’s a bit of Moe Szyslak in there somewhere, too.

Had to look that up. I didn’t realize he had a last name…

Is that real?

Yes. That’s his “Twitter suit.” He also has as suit for each of his 12 Rules for Life.

I was involved in a student union when the Jordan Peterson thing first erupted. He was scheduled to speak on alcoholism at some small venue, and a colleague from the union invited me to join a protest that was being organized. She was using a union event as a recruiting platform

Since I’m in favor of treatment for alcoholism, I declined. Not surprisingly, she took this as evidence of my anti-trans bigotry

Now, I see there are ongoing attempts to cancel his access to certain platforms. In this case, the Canadian Tire Centre. This is the same hockey arena where Metallica and other large acts perform when they come to town. Most bands don’t stop in Ottawa, though, probably they have better sales and better crowds in Montreal and Toronto

He wouldn’t have been made famous if the regressive left hadn’t reacted the way they did to his early points. Even if they succeed in this cancellation attempt, he’ll still find some way to connect with people who care what he has to say.

The very people who want to take away his platforms are main contributors to his fame.

:joy:

His transition to Batman villain is coming along nicely…

Just saw this interesting JP clip, which IMO is extraordinarily relevant to what’s going on with political ideologies today. It’s only a few seconds but describes an interesting psychological test.

That’s really ridiculous. Anyone with some logic can understand just because you don’t agree with someone on some points that treatment for alcoholism is an important topic for many people suffering and should be encouraged.

I just saw some clips of JP on Joe Rogan and he looks to be in much better spirits now compared to after his rehab from benzos

I don’t think they’re allowed to teach logic anymore, it is white supremacist thinking. Don’t ask inconvenient questions like how computers work, that’s a privilege

I, for one, welcome a future in which no-one asks me how computers work.

30 years from now, the kids will be asking you “What’s a computer? Do you remember computers?”

Show them a truth table, should be the end of their inconvenient questions

We’ll be transhuman by then, so the idea of having a computer outside of your head will seem very strange.
