The Jordan Peterson Thread

First of all, lol.

Second of all, it would be misleading to say you’re completely wrong (even though it would be technically correct, as “nobody” means not a single person). The trans-man doesn’t get much attention. It’s the trans-woman that people (“on both sides”) get excited about, for some reason.

But if you honestly believe no-one out there is genuinely afraid of transpeople, spend five seconds oogling “drag groomers” or similar search terms. Just sayin’.

(Not going to get started on the Islam stuff again – there are plenty of threads for that already.)

Stuff like this

This is for real. I just tried it.

Bizarre stuff. I mean, why? You can find all sorts of seriously dangerous stuff on YT - how to make explosives, for example. Why is it necessary to censor a grumpy old man?

I’m sure they really think it’s a safeguarding question.

In any conversation or debate a basic foundation of mutal understanding needs to be forged in order to build on what is known and explore deeper and more meaningful exchanges.

This comment by @yyy is a perfect example of why this is not possible with some. The debate surrounding trans and the implications has been around and in the pubic eye for well over a decade now.

Despite this and the consequences of trans women in biological womens spaces as opposed to trans men and their impact on biological men remains a mystery to @yyy. Why one has been vastly more controversial than the other? It seems he can’t imagine why that is as he scratches his head and ponders what that “some reason” might be.

Frankly it’s obvious and should be to anyone who spends more than 30 seconds thinking about the implications.

OK, I get confused here which is which. Let’s say ‘f2m’ and ‘m2f’ to keep it clear. People do get upset about f2ms teens because they are far and away the largest demographic being influenced by this gender BS. Teen girls seem way, way more suggestible than boys. Supposedly something like 40% of them now consider themselves something other than ‘cis’ or ‘straight’, although since that’s an MSM statistic it probably needs to be taken with a chunk of Himalayan salt. People are upset about it because these kids’ lives are being ruined, just so that some midwit adults can feel clever and enlightened.

Nah, people really aren’t afraid of actual trans people (m2f). I know two of them. They are not particularly frightening, although both of them are a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic (aside from being trans). One of them quite obviously isn’t really ‘trans’, he’s just a gay man who gets off on dressing up as a woman - which, historically speaking, was acknowledged as a very common presentation of ‘trans’. In unguarded moments he says as much. The other one is a bit more complicated. Has had all kinds of surgery. Probably a narcissist. But the point is, nobody is terrified of them.

What people are terrified of are predatory, mentally-ill perverts who are demanding that people accomodate their obnoxious behaviour, and that’s not a ‘phobia’. A phobia is an irrational fear. People have good reason to be afraid of people who are mentally ill; it’s hard-wired into us. The reason is that mentally-ill people are disproportionately represented in crime statistics. It’s completely normal to be afraid of them. The term ‘phobia’ is being used incorrectly.

Those people do not represent ‘the trans community’ (to the extent that such a thing even exists). They’re just nutters who have found themselves empowered by an excessively tolerant society. This attitude to mental illness is actually not new - it’s been going on for at least 30 years. It’s just that these particular people have become of interest to the social engineers as potentially useful dogwhistles.

I’d say there’s a solid grounding of situational fear from picking up a hot girl and finding a penis, Saturday Night Fever-style. The pathological amongst us would consider that anti-trans as opposed to a more mild-mannered “biting to a chocolate doughnut and realising it’s cream-filled” scenario.

See this thread:-

More than half of the people diagnosed with mental illness will be diagnosed with multiple conditions. It’s becoming evidently clear that this is happening with many trans people who’s behavior are becoming increasingly problematic.

Not here on my end. Works fine.

Oh, it’s back - it was definitely not working yesterday. Maybe it was just a software glitch. Strange glitch, though.

This comment is a perfect example of something, but I’ll leave it to people to decide what that is. :upside_down_face:

This reminds me of when you defended JP’s rules for life by saying among other things that they’re not really rules, just guidelines. They make more sense to you as guidelines, so okay, good for you. But he did choose the word rule because of its meaning.

In this case, it makes more sense to you not to be afraid of trans people in general and also not to confuse disagreement with fear, so okay, good for you. But there are people who are genuinely afraid.

The issue is that some people decide that’s exactly what it means to be trans. Once they decide trans = predatory, they’re afraid of trans people, period.

IMO there has been a deliberate attempt to make the general public believe we’re all being overrun by terrible trans people. The perpetual message is: be afraid, and here’s a boogeyman to be afraid of.

So you agree that (some) people are genuinely afraid? I don’t know what we’re arguing about, then. :idunno: :rainbow:

There are people afraid of many things. But the point is that anyone not conforming with trans ideology and addresses concerns are being labelled as transphobic is nonsensical. It’s a cheap way to not have to deal with the issue in any meaningful capacity because it’s ideologically driven

Do I have a fear of crazy shit like this? Yes I do. I’m very careful about what I say with my business for example and have made it very clear to my employees we are apolitical as a business and do not touch social issues. Am I afraid of actual trans people, no. I do have a rational fear of how trans ideology is becoming increasingly authoritarian

There’s a lot of free-floating fear, mostly artificially manufactured. Various targets for this fear are being set up. In this particular case, the scary character is the big loud guy in a dress demanding his right to use women’s changing rooms. These people are not ‘trans’ as such.

Perhaps what I’m trying to say is that people are afraid of the thing that is out there creating fear, not ‘trans people’ per se. And as @Andrew0409 pointed out, being afraid of something isn’t the same as being ‘-phobic’. A phobia is an irrational, crippling fear, not just fear.

Well, one day if you figure out why trans women are at the center of more controversy than trans men, you can get back to us, let us know, and we can all congratulate you on observing the bleeding obvious.

I will not be waiting with bated breath.

I used to know a guy who was afraid of pineapples. Especially gay pineapples…

Probably watched Little Nicky.
