The KMT's Weird and Cringey Insults

By weird, I mean names that have nothing to do with what the DPP stands for, did, or is trying to do, not even tangentially. They are just derogatory names that the KMT, TMD and possibly the CCP wumaos came up with just for the sake of being derogatory.

For example, when I call the TPP TMD, it’s because the party’s Pinyin initials are literally Taiwan Mingzong Dang. It is formed exactly like how KMT came from its Wade-Gile initials. Sure, people who call the TPP TMD is doing so because it is also the initial of a common curse phrase 他媽的, but at least it’s tangentially related.

Not so for the names GMD and TMD have been trying to coin for the DPP and its supporters. Names like the earliest 綠蛆 (green maggot), to the most common one used during the Tsai era, 塔綠班 (Ta-green-ban), to their new favorite 綠共 (green communists), none of them has got anything remotely related to the DPP.

For me, even Trump coined nicknames, such as Crooked Hilary or Sleepy Joe, as unfounded as these claims seem to me, at least are related to certain personal traits or GOP narrative.

I guess from the Taliban and communist puns, they are trying to imply the DPP is authoritarian, but it’s a claim so ridiculous, I found it hard to understand why the traditional Chinese internet is blanketed with such usages. Especially when the leaders of KMT kept visiting and kowtowing to the actual Chinese Communist Party.

Calling the DPP green communists for the recall movement and for the police investigating KMT politicians for abusing their powers by breaking the Personal Data Protection Act to get their own recall movement going, or sending police officers to harass citizens who petitioned to recall KMT legislators, is just ridiculous. The DPP is following the Recall Act, which the KMT and the TMD just modified last December. KMT and TMD legislators raised the bar for the signing petitions, requiring copy of National ID card, and required more petitions to initiate a recall election. The DPP followed the law to recall KMT legislators, and KMT so far failed to reach the bar in their attempts and tried to forge records and break their own law, and somehow that makes the DPP the authoritarians?

Also, the pan-Blue seems livid when the police prosecuted their leaders for breaking the Assembly and Parade Act. However, KMT legislators were the ones against amending the Assembly and Parade Act for the past 30 years. So again, the police were just following the law that the KMT made.

If 綠蛆 (green maggot), 塔綠班 (Ta-green-ban), and 綠共 (green communists) are so baseless, how exactly are they getting so much traction?

Constant repetition and amplification? How much traction do they really have outside deep blue and hardcore TPP circles? I think ‘green communism’ is somewhat desperate. They had to come up with something that China won’t adopt in it propaganda like the other ones.

I guess I’ve been wondering about the same phenomenon since 2022.

It’s just that calling the DPP Green Communist is just such a stretch, it’s so baffling that educated people are going along with it. The KMT had much more of a connection to actual communism than the DPP ever had.

In regards to the bold. It’s not that we don’t have a lot of education, it’s that we don’t have good education. I think it’s actually that simple. Lots of people completely without critical thinking. And evermore people with total lack of attention spans. I don’t think it needs much deeper an explanation, people in general aren’t willing to think pragmatically (on scale). If there ever is to be a downfall of Taiwan as we know it (free and peaceful), this will be the root cause. I bet my house on it.

The irony is the greens came about specifically because of a tyrannical dictator…the supports whom follow this directive generally don’t read much. I can’t count how many times I’ve been to the green island prison with people and they think only corrupt politicians were jailed. The brainwash of that generation was actually fairly successful. Even people normally considered smart come off as goofs due to their cult like follower nature

Teach the kids. Regardless of anything we do today, we are nothing without a smarter next generation. Teach the kids…get them able to think, not just spew shit to remember. I truly feel Taiwan has literally no other hope long term.

I’m not sure if that’s the case in general, but at least within my bubble, I don’t think that is the case. It’s not a lack of understanding, but more like a deliberate act of spite.

People I know that have taken the pan-Blue side seem to know these comparison wouldn’t hold up under analysis, but they have taken a side, and they just enjoy the inability of DPP and DPP supports to give a succinct and catchy comeback to those type of attacks. If it takes a TL;DR to explain why their attacks aren’t valid, that’s already a victory in their eyes.

Many of them also feel like they were subjected to a reverse brainwash or censorship while they were growing up in the 2000s or the 2010s, meaning the DPP is using the rhetoric of “China is a threat” to get away with doing anything, and for a long time if they voiced that viewpoint they get censored and labeled as “not loving Taiwan” by the mainstream viewpoints of the past decade.

On a side note, during the 2020 election cycle, most young Taiwanese, regardless whether they were pan-Green or pan-Blue, got on the anti-woke, pro-Trump bandwagon. The typical rhetoric from pan-Green pro-Trump Taiwanese people at the time was that Trump and the GOP support Taiwan more than the DNC. Those pan-Green people have mostly since changed their tunes if they remained pan-Green, even if they are still anti-woke, and recognized that there is bipartisan support for Taiwan in the US, but maybe not Trump. However, most of the young pan-Blue supporters are still fiercely anti-woke, pro-Trump, pro-Elon, pro-X, pro-Tesla and the rest. I wonder how these information war are related.

The trump thing isn’t a shocker. Taiwanese are sheep, generally. Exceptions for sure, but largely docile until insulted/ego hurt Trump said tarrif china, Taiwan made money and Taiwan went Hurrah without a second thought. That’s pretty short sighted in my opinion. I know a lot of foreigners here with corporations that were equally as simple minded on the trump front. Frankly, they are acting equally as simple minded kn the trump front jow after trump said Taiwan should pay for protection lol. It’s really depressing to see supposedly extremely highly educated and successful people be essentially like seaweed in the tides.

Your point on spite, yeah. This one I totally agree with and frankly I find a bit scary in Taiwan. Though i think if people were better educated and could actually think critically from birth, this type of spite (jealousy, pettiness, greed etc) wouldn’t be as prevalent as it is in present day Taiwan. I view spite as a form of lacking intelligence. A lack of maturity, for sure. It’s so damn easy to squash a beef in Taiwan. Between 2 competing brands, a bit harder granted. Normally it generally just takes a smile and a free tea. Easiest thing in the world to solve until 2 opposing sides have such ego that things can’t be resolved. I feel this often times stems from a literal lack of understanding on a topic (i put it down to lack of intelligence which is a direct result from poor education).

When we watch the political debates, speeches, fights etc it displays this quite clearly. They [politicians] are pandering to retarded sheep that just want to hear the key talking points and not have a well informed long conversation on how to grow together. Foe this thread topic, I feel it is important to point out the Chinese KMT public meeting with Terry Guo and Ke P where they all got divorced on national TV. Other than the time the Chinese KMT spray painted the furniture, broke the building and put actual nails innthe wall to uurt people, I can’t think of a more obvious case of people not suitable to lead this country in recent country. Frankly, I wouldn’t trust them to feed a goldfish if they are literally spiking the walls with nails where they also work. Truly, retarded. Yet there are loads of people that cheered that on. Somehow the trailer park has a very high level voice for an entire country, terrifying.

I have to say, I am still unconvinced educating children better (critical thinking, logic, ethics etc) now isn’t our only hope for the next decades to come. Taiwan is already good enough at cutting corners and being rich. That’s not brag worthy. I see no way out for Taiwan unless we level up.

So true. Would be even funnier if it isn’t also so depressing at the same time.

KMT also draws negative attention from other countries with their remarks.

Even Israel criticized Chu for echoing disinformation campaign to paint the DPP as authoritarian and comparing DPP first as the communists and now the NAZIs. Chu doubled down though, releasing a statement asking Germany not to back DPP’s authoritarian government.

Says someone from a party that upheld single party martial law for 38 years and murdered people for their political views. Chu is delusional.

His exact words:

I will stress again, NAZI Germany, Hitler, was the dictator that committed the most brutal atrocities against the human race, and the human race as a whole condemn and despise his actions. However, let’s not forget Fascism could grow out of democracy, and become a dictatorship. That’s the lesson we should take away from history. We must seriously challenge anyone who damages democracy, or oppresses the opposition party, or dictators who violates human rights of all. That’s our common goal, and that’s what I meant by my original comment. I couldn’t have been more clear about it. What the international community should condemn are dictators, and not speak for dictators who are possibly assaulting democracy and oppressing the opposition party. They should speak from the position of safeguarding democracy and freedom.

Great! So he’s condemning the CCP and Xi?

Everything the Chinese KMT is saying now about dictators and communism is directly an insult towards China. I’m not sure they even comprehend the irony…being that dumb is why Hou & Terry Guo lost this election.

I think Chu sidestepped the issue by only criticizing people who disrupted democracy. If you read what he said carefully, dictators and authoritarians in places where democracy was never a thing before they came to power are technically not in the group to be condemned and despised by the world.

Yes, yes, very true. It’s not like this will air in china anyway to the people.

But even the technically sidestepping stuff, he has essentially said communism is bad. This goes against the long term goal of Taiwan becoming china, specifically under the communist party.

Don’t forget Han who lost the previous election. A true genius of epic proportions whose ability to say stupid things was astounding.

No one forgets Han, nor Ma (far worse than han). What’s astonishing is that not only did they not learn from those 2 complete imbeciles, they actually got worse (ie. The huo, Terry Guo, ke p gang on TV hahahahahhahaha!!)

It has only gotten worse since, some way, some how. Credit given where crist is due, its hard as fuck to be that out of touch, The Chinese KMT can always astonish the world with their proper ineptitude, ignorance and most importantly their highly autistic styled arrogance and confidence! If it wasn’t so existential fir us here, it would be comedy gold!

Wasn’t it Han who, in a speech to female supporters, stated that if he could, he would sleep with each of them to express his gratitude?

The Chinese KMT aunties, to this day, still express gratitude for his new street lights whilst shitting on dpp for not doing anything to help kaohsiung (like cleaning love river, mrt, water connections, sewage etc etc)

If not cult, infatuation. I think a lot of lonely older ladies saw sausage lips and got wet. They really aren’t that deep thinking a crowd :sad_but_relieved_face:
