It is with deep sadness that I bring the news of the passing of my close personal friend and business associate Hans Breuer.
Hans was co-author with William Murphy of the Snakes of Taiwan website as well as authoring his own books A Greenhorn Naturalist In Borneo and A Cobra Hijacked My Camera Bag!

Captain’s personal log:
There’s not enough space or time to express the terrible sense of loss that myself and everyone else who loved Hans feels at this time. I would simply like to say that Hans was an incredible husband, father, business associate and cherished friend. You would be hard pressed to find anyone with such an upbeat and positive mental attitude regarding any situation. Hans was intelligent, kind, compassionate, witty and funny, just to name a few of his many attributes. For myself, living just three kilometers away was a gift in itself. A morning breakfast at the Pretty Devil breakfast shop with lively conversation followed up by a nice birding hike and perhaps a late night herping outing were always wonderful times we spent together. Traveling to visit him in Borneo for two weeks in Kuching was such an amazing journey. I can honestly say that spending time with Hans made me a better person. Now that he’s passed on, I’m going to fondly remember our times together and his infectious smile and laughter and do my utmost to see the positives in any situation I encounter. In that way I will keep the best parts of Hans alive in my daily memories. Rest in peace my brother.
Here is the announcement his son Karl posted on Hans’ Facebook page.
Here is Hans’ Facebook account in the event that anyone would like to read the comments people have posted regarding his passing and see how many lives he touched in immeasurable ways. He was one in a million and truly larger than life! Perhaps some of you that knew him would like to add to the comments as well. I’m certain that any messages of condolences would be a comfort for his wife Lisa and his two sons Hans Jr. (Hanhan) and Karl during this most difficult time.
