Seeing reports on X that Senator Lindsey Graham has died suddenly at age 71.
I turn 71 this month, and I’ve had a bunch of friends and acquaintances my age die this year.
Current thinking (afaik) is that the best two indicators of longevity for American males are VO2max and grip strength. Sen. Graham was grossly overweight. In looking at him I doubt he would have tested well with either of those two.
Empirically, surviving age 70-ish seems to be a real accomplishment for males who have not taken care of themselves physiologically.
