The "Netflix and Solo Dinner" routine: Is this the expat standard in Taiwan?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently doing some research for a project focused on the expat community in Taiwan, and I wanted to get some “on the ground” perspectives on daily habits.

I’ve noticed a pattern where the default after a long day is just ordering in (FoodPanda/UberEats) and eating solo in front of a screen: YouTube, Netflix, or just scrolling. It feels like the easiest routine, but the “screen-fatigue” during meals is starting to get real.

I’m working on a project to swap those 20 minutes of solo scrolling for a casual video meal with someone else eating at the same time, but I want to make sure I’m solving a real problem.

Do most of you actually enjoy that solo decompression time, or would you prefer a casual way to be social during the week that isn’t a 2-hour restaurant commitment?
