The origins of people's screen names

My nickname is not from the music group SHE (whom I don’t really like) but rather the fragrance by Emporio armani

So … you’re NOT the Neil Gaiman Sandman??? How devastatingly disappointing …

My INternet Handel has alwayS been Quirky since 1996
, or was it 1997?
back in the daze of #irc.

And all these years I was reading it Hex-uan! Duh…

Awwwwwwwwwwwww
LP :sunglasses:

It means “at peace” more than quiet. I once had a lover who was going through a tumultuous period in his life and his family changed his name to include that character.

If you like crossword puzzles, take a stab!

Ever since I saw your name here last night, the song that Charles Aznavour sang in your praise has been playing repeatedly in my head, and I’m sure I won’t be able to refrain from singing it out loud when I head for the hills on my scooter in the sunshine later this morning.

She
May be the face I can’t forget
A trace of pleasure or regret
May be my treasure or the price I have to pay
She may be the song that summer sings
May be the chill that autumn brings
May be a hundred tearful things
Within the measure of the day.

She
May be the beauty or the beast
May be the famine or the feast
May turn each day into heaven or a hell
She may be the mirror of my dreams
A smile reflected in a stream
She may not be what she may seem
Inside a shell

She who always seems so happy in a crowd
Whose eyes can be so private and so proud
No one’s allowed to see them when they cry
She may be the love that can and hope to last
May come to me from shadows of the past
That I remember till the day I die

She
May be the reason I survive
The why and where for I’m alive
The one I’ll care for through the rough and rainy years
Me I’ll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I got to be
The meaning of my life is

She, she, she

Is this the song Elvis Costello covered for ‘Notting Hill’? I like it, even if its not as good as ‘Hallelujah’ as covered by Jeff Buckley. You’ll be moved to tears.

An Olde European name for Lanyu (Orchid Island).

You walk in wearing a T-shirt that says “Will pay for sex” and a wad of cash in your hand?

That’s it. And as big a fan of Elvis Costello as I am, I prefer the original version because its sentiments seem so much more fittingly expressed in an amorous French accent (which I love to mimic when I’m singing it myself).

I taught history and geography at a harambee school in rural Western Province, Sauti ya Kenya. My students called me mwalimu. They called the other teachers mwalimu, too. I was also a mwalimu in Taiwan, but never got to talk about the formation of the Great Rift Valley, the Bantu migration out of West Africa, the Mau Mau insurgency, ujama socialism, or australopithecines.

Being a mwalimu in Taiwan was all about explaining why and how this sentence can be grammatically correct.

“Is” grammatically correct don’t you mean? (I had to check your post for the correct spelling of grammatically by the way)

Danimal Crackers in my soup…

 1. I have an interest in '60s U.K. youth culture. Mods vs. Rockers.
 2. I’m a big fan of the Memphis band Big Star, who had a song called “Mod Lang”. It’s not one of their better tunes, but it sounded the best for a name and I didn’t want to confuse my gender with a name like “Daisy Glaze”

Have wanted to ask this question for a while:

A lot of Forumosans have interesting user names

What does your Forumosa name mean/why did you choose it?

Ex. What exactly is a “namahottie”? Why “Sandman”? “Turkey Dinner”? “Daasgrrl”?
Etc., etc.

You’re Australian aren’t you?

Bismarck.

The name of my dog back home.

The name of the late great German Chancellor that united Germany in the 19th century.

The name of the fabulous German Battleship (named after the late Chancellor) the sunk the HMS HOOD with one volley from her 16 inch guns and which took the entire Royal Navy to stop. Having damaged her rudders (still not having sunk this great ship) orders were given to abandon ship and the crew scuttled her. Her sister ship the Von Tirpitz was sunk and destroyed by British SAS in a Norwegian fjord.

You’re Australian aren’t you?
I thought Scottish.
