The Overdue Critical Race Theory Thread

And this narrative probably came from a left wing site. What else is new?

Yesā€¦ I have a school age child, so Iā€™m aware of whatā€™s going on in my local (conservative) district. Weā€™ve had more than our share of parents in the school system complaining about it here. Over and over. Despite repeated assurances that nothing like what people are complaining about is actually in the local schools. Weā€™ve also had repeated complaints about the 1619 curriculum, despite the school not teaching to it. But every motherfā€™in time fox runs a story about something related, sweet baby jeebus, do we hear about it locally.

My company has been in the news recently for some of training weā€™ve had for, ohhhh, ~15 years, some of which Iā€™ve been through. And the talking head complaints about it, and subsequent right wing blogosphere head explody has been pretty amusing in its detachment from reality. ;D

No, this narrative comes from what I see locals bitching about. :stuck_out_tongue:

Our school board literally banned it recently - it was brought up by the school board chair because he heard on social media that some teachers were teaching it, with no verification, and when asked to define crt, he couldnā€™t. This is the right wing whacko world I live in that weā€™re spending time banning things when we donā€™t know what weā€™re banning, because Marxism! So fucked.

Crackpot Race Theory is the belief that skin color determines the content of a societyā€™s character

I didnā€™t realize there were so many -isms on the left elbowing for recognition. Iā€™ll have to use more words than just liberal when saying what I believe.

Well itā€™s an opinion piece so it must be true. How many Marxists do you know? I canā€™t name one yet somehow its everywhere.

You must have gone to a school that didnā€™t have t-shirt shops near by.

You mean because someone had a Che Guevara shirt and listened to Rage Against the Machine? I donā€™t think teenage angst qualifies as Marxist and wanting to establish a communist society. But ya know I get the slippery slope argumentā€¦

Itā€™s a good piece, itā€™s actually really ringing true right now. Some people canā€™t seem to function without putting things in neat granny boxes they can treasure or toss away at will

I know one, for sure.

If people describe themselves as Marxists they are Marxists, yeah?

Sure. Now in comparison how many would label themselves as conservatives, or liberal? I donā€™t think you can make the argument that Marxism is an influential force in American politics.

Western European style Democratic socialismā€¦maybe. Marxism, no.

I didnā€™t make an argument that Marxism is an influential force in American politics. Are you thinking of a different poster?

No your response of knowing one served as a good counterpoint to TGā€™s opinion piece. Donā€™t worry I know what you post.

Do I have to call the guy out? Heā€™s a regular poster on here. Although I think he might be a Communist. Splitter!

Why? I believe you. Outside the US, I donā€™t know any even in the communist countries Iā€™ve gone to. Although Iā€™ve not had the opportunity to chat with elderly Russians or Nepalese Maoist rebels perhaps Iā€™d have better luck there.

Iā€™m sure youā€™ve at least heard of some self-proclaimed Marxists in the US.

Charlie Chaplin? I know the ones whose lives were ruined by Joseph McCarthy but honestly canā€™t recall anything more recent. Hanoi Jane maybe?

Was Chaplin a trained Marxist?

No, Charlie Chaplin had the misfortune of being a foreigner and accused of being a communist because he attempted to satirize inequality and poor working conditions in some of his films. The fact he was a foreigner made it worse and the FBI investigated him for being a communist and despite no proof refused him re-entry into the country and blocked his films from airing. He was essentially a victim of McCarthy-ist cancel culture. This what I think of when I hear people mention Marxism or neo-Marxism in America. Its almost always used as a weapon to demonize the ideas we donā€™t like or canā€™t accept rather than an actual influential force on American politics.
