The peak woke thread (Part 1)

probably, is it as simple as italics? i just copy/paste and let it fly if it shows up in preview, but i’m happy to learn new tricks

When you post a picture in the box, it will read 100% 75% 50% under it.

I’m not getting it, they’re auto sized. i can make an effort to choose smaller images when available, though.

He’s on ignore, so all I can see are your posts. But this one means you won. lol

I stand corrected.

The article is making its way around.

In that case you get most of the wit and wisdom, but for the full entertainment value you really need to see both sides!

The fact that I’m on ignore* and you’re still talking about me 5 times a day to anyone that will listen kind of proves that I have, actually.

@mad_masala I changed my mind, that video you sent was deep. I’m on your side on this now. Your profound, deep understanding the American university system has caused me to rethink my entire views on not just American colleges, but colleges period.

So I wanted to test out how dumb and woke Brit students as a comp. I walked around a random middle tier English Uni today, and interviewed 4 random 18 year old undergrad students with bizarre leading questions! You should have heard their answers!

Since I am clearly an expert in the field of British Education-- having read about it online in places like the National Enquirer, Socialist Worker Daily, and some Vlogs made in basements–I now have conclusive proof that all Brit Students are dumb woke morons too just like the Americans!

Thanks for setting me straight big guy. You were right all along. It’s a worldwide problem!
The woke shit is everywhere! Run for the hills!

The problem is, relying just on what you see “happening in the real world,” you have, by definition, a limited view of it and may be likely to confuse your individual experience with what’s typical. For example, I lived most of my life in the right wing boogeyman Republik of Kalifornia, and it ain’t what the RWNJs think it is based on the crazy anecdotes that they have been fed, but off they go thinking the crazy anecdotes is some sort of self evident data.

It’s also great hearing people who haven’t been on a college campus in decades (or sometimes ever) talk about the crazy right wing indoctrination that goes on there. ;D

Plus their information is coming from loopy RW indoctrination blogs and the Washington times, in addition to having zero experience.

Or have never been on one at all in their lives, or if they were it was like 40 years ago once.

It hasn’t if you’ve followed the links and looked at where the source material comes from. Like an academic might do. Look again at the story you posted, see where some of those quotes are coming from. Go check your new statesman piece and see where the links come from.

The fact that you’re not vetting your sources and don’t see the limitations in JP interviews and obscure RW press already says a lot.

Good idea.

Our interactions over the past few days say plenty to me as well my friend. Try to tone down the personal attacks.

That comment wasn’t a personal attack. It says a lot about the degree of research and fact checking done, and how careful it is or not. You assumed it was about you, my friend.

Have a good day!

If someone says they were abused, you are not allowed to say bad words about them, or I will tell on you.

Must be all those times you used the word ‘you’. Also, again you are deflecting

…About the degree of research. Not about you, that was assumed. Not deflecting given you haven’t said anything besides taking a comment personally that wasn’t about you.

Thought you were done with this. I’m ok with that too.

Well, my view comes from various media basically. Not much to see here in Taiwan, eh? Not much of an “individual experience” is possible for me, in that sense. I try to take in all sides, not least from here on F.com. Bring up a particular argument, something I’m missing say, something distilled from some kind of academic research, and I’ll certainly consider it, and if I think it will be worth my time look into it more, I will. I don’t however feel the need to start reading papers in the hope of gleaning something, for example.

My anecdotal evidence when I go back home to the northeast coast is similar. Though I sometimes get the feeling that I may be heading back to some postmodern apocalyptic wasteland, people seem normal everywhere, and things are overall more relaxed then before I came back here 30 years back say. I haven’t been back in a while, but I assume I’ll feel the same the next time I go back.

But the ideas under discussion here are floating about in the media, and reflect things happening in real life that we can read about and assess. I think that’s where the conversation is basically, and where problems are perceived. It’s not unimportant.

One would have to be a religious zealot or worse to jump up and down shouting that there is nothing to see here…

Or actually be there working and living in it every day to realize that the pnoid fear of the zombie woke takeover lives mostly in people’s heads in TW. Some people just see wokeness in everything, it says more about them. See:

I’d confirm this is true on campuses as well.

One of the many frustrating things about trying to communicate with you is your memory isn’t great and you seem to forget what has already been written in this discussion. Things like this affect your credibility and your likability…
