The peak woke thread (Part 1)

In your defense, I guess that’s a legit phonetic spelling.

If she’s proof of anything, that would be a step up. Plus I may like her for other reasons. Can I get a name. Don’t be coy.

either way regardless, would you believe ‘irregardless’ is a word now?

Do you know what is not an official word in English? “Derp”. I tried to play it in scrabble today but the game wouldn’t accept it.

:kissing_closed_eyes:

“It’s not a real word. I don’t care what the dictionary says,”

I Googled Cathy Newman.

Newman began her career as a newspaper journalist, and had spells at Media Week , The Independent , the Financial Times and The Washington Post . She has worked on Channel 4 News since 2006, initially as a correspondent and, since 2011, as a presenter.

Born in Guildford, Newman is the younger daughter of David Newman and his wife Julia Worsdall, both chemistry teachers, and has one sister.[1][4][5] She attended a fee-paying girls school in Guildford until the age of 16,[6] when she joined Charterhouse, where her father taught, as one of a few girls admitted to the school’s sixth form. She has said that she stayed silent for years about the sexual harassment and other humiliation she experienced from fellow pupils.[7] She was on the path to a career as a violinist or in the legal profession before changing her plans as a result of seeing BBC journalist Kate Adie on television.[8] Newman read English at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford,[9] where she graduated with first-class honours.[8]

In January 2018, Newman interviewed Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson.[32] The interview covered topics such as gender equality, including the gender pay gap, freedom of speech, and transgender rights.[33][34] Many commenters were critical of Newman, several of them saying she had a preconceived and misplaced grasp of Peterson’s views.[35][36] New York Times columnist David Brooks suggested that Newman had misrepresented Peterson’s views.[37] The Guardian 's Nosheen Iqbal stated that Peterson had made “broad generalisations on male and female behaviour” and had denied the existence of the gender pay gap “as a qualitative fact”.[4] Channel 4 News editor Ben de Pear said that the station called in security specialists in response to social-media abuse and threats directed against her.[32][34][38] Newman later shared that the abuse ranged from “cunt, bitch, dumb blonde” to death threats.[4] Peterson had asked his followers to “back off” from Newman, and later said that there wasn’t any evidence of threats, and suggested that the idea that the abuse was driven by misogyny was “ridiculous”

So we’ve found another abuse victim to mock in peak woke? Now I get why she’d be on a meme here!

I just know her from that interview, which I’ve watched. I know nothing else about her life, and I don’t think it changes the point. Since you haven’t seen the interview, knee-jerk calling her a victim in response is kinda peak woke whataboutism… Do you think the way she conducted the discussion was in good faith, since you have accused me today of not doing so?

That is some hard core net politics jargon!

see my other work at

edit: also, you’re deflecting again

No, I just don’t feel like having to sit through that video at the moment to be honest. I don’t know if she’s a victim or not, just meant that the fact that she might be one and she’s an accomplished woman with some power that’s challenging accepted norms is enough to get her thrown under the bus here.

Let me guess, another one faking it for her own selfish personal gain, to advance some sort of nefarious political agenda? I trust you’re a straight shooter. Break it down for me.

fair enough, i followed these things more closely back when it was relevant and recent (and in the international press, in that case). that said, sometimes i won’t feel like it either, this works both ways or it doesn’t work at all.

well, i only know of her because of this, let’s not get carried away

which isn’t what she did, which you would know if you watched the video. which is fine, but since you’ve admitted to not knowing what you are talking about there is no reason to keep talking

please, no more

i haven’t bothered to speculate on her motives, so your speculation on my speculation is fundamentally flawed. but thank you for taking the time to reflect on it

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

The point was, so what you’re saying is was relevant to our conversation at the time, a phrase she briefly made famous. I"m sorry you’ve never heard of her, and don’t know the story about the interview, and also haven’t seen the interview. If you knew, maybe you would have enjoyed the joke.

edit: i’m also sorry i got lazy and just left the one with text there, i should have gone back for the straight picture without text and replaced it

That was a really roundabout answer to: Who is that? :grinning:

In the end, totally worth it

Can you do me a solid and post memes at 75% instead ? It looks a little tidier. I think I can get the full snark effect without it taking up my whole monitor. Grazie mille
