The Piano Man

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/engl … 567619.stm

I’m surprised no-one else has mentioned this one yet.

Man found wandering the cold rainy streets in England, no money or papers, and all labels removed from his clothes. He does not speak, ever. When given a pen and paper he draws a piano, and when sat down at a piano he plays for four hours. Apparently his carers were amazed at his virtuousity, although they didn’t recognise any of the tunes he played.

Despite widespread publicity he still hasn’t been identified, and still hasn’t spoken.

I think he’s a former English teacher, traumatised by his experiences in Taiwan. Any suggestions anyone?

He does have that “I shouldn’t have chased chou dofu with Taiwan Beer” sort of look to him, doesn’t he?

He certainly does have a E-S-Shell-shocked look on his face. Too many flashcards?

On the serious side, though, the picture he drew of the piano is abso-fricking-lutely amazing. Perfectly detailed keys and the shading is very realistic. I wonder if he’s suffered some kind of damage to the right-side of his brain so that while his language is gone (temporarily or permanently), he’s still able to use art and music. Maybe a severe case of autism.

Did he look like Elton John?

actually the report i read said he is no virtuoso…just plays bits and pieces with varying degrees of competence…

oh and some czech rock band claims he’s their long lost keyboard player…

He is a former member of a Czech rock band from Prague, his band mates have recognized him in the media photos and alerted police. apparently, he has suffered from mental problems and depression the last 20 years or so.

Case solved.

Hope he gets the help he needs.

Maybe a Hollywood movie will bring him some much needed medical help and money.

Wow, Billy Joel’s really hit rough times.

I don’t think so

The czech theory was discounted days ago.

Chewy, can you edit your link down so it doesn’t stretch the page?

The truth is out, it was all a hoax:

I don’t get it. Are they saying that he really couldn’t play the piano and just played the same note over and over again?

maybe he’d found the one true note after years of searching…

i’m guessing it was the A flat two octaves below middle C…that always struck me as the most meaningful note…

It is often the note not played that is important. Not just anyone can not play that note.

i applaud the guy for this scam! it’s a total expose’ on the stupidity of society. the less you say, the more people respect you. he was homeless, got to lay up in a nice hospital bed, eat, sleep, watch TV, and have a bunch of morons try to figure out “what was wrong”.all this attention without saying a word. what a genius! i knew the score when I first heard this story, but that’s his racket. why spoil a good thing?

And dat is the definition of Jazz !

“Are you aware of the music known as jazz?”

Jazz, what’s that, 1984, Matt Bianco (sings badly) What is lo-o-o-ove anywa-a-a-y, does anybody love anybody anyway?”

“No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it’s a fence. But, no, it’s soft.”
