only 40 years to make back those 10 mil investment
It’s an investment. It pays off when sold again for 12 million.
That’s why she is worried about the electrical wiring. A fire and it needs large sum for repairs, which she can hardly get from anyone involved.
I hope she didn’t get a huge loan and depends on the rent income to pay for it.
I really dont understand why the case was handed down initially as the scam / breaking contract was (still is) so obviously.
“Taichung City’s Dali District” is historically a primary massage/unofficial red light district by the way. Lots of Vietnamese and locals.
Click bait title as this is a local’s spouse so minimally should say Taiwanese’s foreign spouse…
There are hundreds if not thousands of threads of all the bad things dirty foreigners up to.
This ‘dirty’ foreigner got his ID checked at a road check-point as a taxi passenger. It was so obvious the cop was a racist.
We have that, it’s called the Kman’s finest hour.
Because for some reason Kman is obsessed with foreign wolves hurting those poor innocent locals!
It’s like a 12 year old wrote an article.
Usually it’s the Taiwanese wolves hunting us poor and innocent foreigners
People must be paying cash here en masse. I don’t understand the disparity between rents and mortgage costs. Definitely not enough income to pay the mortgage most places in Taiwan.
It’s Chinese culture to buy as much property as you can, and if you don’t have any, you aren’t anybody. It’s engrained in the culture here that property is the safest kind of investment and will always go up in value. Taiwanese also have little understanding of long term investing in the stock market. Most people here who think they are “financially educated” in Taiwan “invest” in the stock market, but they are just day traders, and always lose money. I’m sure we’ve all sat next to people on the MRT looking at their portfolio on the way home, zooming in and out of charts pretending they can predict what’s going to happen next. In my experience it’s rare to find Taiwanese people investing in funds. Because most Taiwanese just make stupid day trades, the stock market has a terrible reputation amongst the average Taiwanese as a place to go to lose money. So what else do they invest in? Property, even if it’s overpriced and the rent doesn’t pay for the mortgage. They soothe themselves by saying it doesn’t matter if they’re putting their own money in each month to pay for the mortgage because they are gaining equity, and if the housing market keeps rising forever then they’ll have made the right choice, but will it? ![]()
She probably has a Taiwanese passport too.
Good point!
Yeah, where’s that article?
No, no. She will sell it for 25 million in 10 years, but better wait 40 years and make it 40 million plus the two homes she gets from the construction company revamping the hood.
Like where I live. They bought it 50 years ago for a million. It is worth 16 million or so in the market today. But the golden egg is getting rebuilt and turned into two apartments at least, one to live, one to rent/give to the children.
I agree on all your points but I’ll add that I do think property will go up forever here. Because it is so culturally engrained, people will buy even if it puts the family in the poorhouse and even if it is a bad investment. Where else will the loot go? Not stocks where they lose their shirts. Not the bank where you get less than half a percent. Only place is housing.
You can’t get married here unless you own a house. I remember the 5 z’s. 房子, 金子, 車子, 才妻子, 兒子
