The vegetable 大陸妹(sp?)

Does anybody know what this is in English? Is it just a fancy name for loose leaf lettuce?

Yes, AFAIK.

I didn’t know it was a real lettuce. It blanches nicely and I always thought it was a cheap, but good, substitute for proper lettuce .

Well, there are many types of lettuce. It seems to be one of them. :idunno:

It’s lettuce: just a semi-loose-leaf variety.

That’s disappointing somehow. I thought I might have discovered something.

Thanks for the clarification guys/gals. I thought so, but wasn’t sure. I found out what the name is for coco coir, now I need to know what A-菜 is in English.

According to people here it’s not a lettuce …

A-菜 is “Indian lettuce”: Lactuca indica.

Ordinary lettuce (including “dalumei”) is Lactuca sativa.

I see what you did there. I somehow imagine my 3rd vegetable translated by you will turn out to be Lactuca ruderalis.

:roflmao: Now that’s funny!

How did they come up with that name? I noticed it was the same in Hong Kong.

Because this new variety is tender, good looking, delicious, and very affordable.

:beatnik:

I’ve never tried smoking lettuce…
