Things you want to forget about 2004

Inspired by this list by Arianna Huffington:

I’d add:

     1. George & Mary / SK2 commercials
     2. George Bush Jr. re-elected to rule the world.
     3. America's anti-gay ammendments frenzy.
     4. Not getting a job I wanted.
  1. Bush
  2. Bush
  3. Bush
  4. The Tsunami

Ariana Huffington

The thread title wasn’t “I love Arianna Huffington and her unswavering political views” now was it?

  1. the re-election of bush
  2. the re-election of chen shui bian
  3. the typhoons that destroyed all my favorite mountain roads
  4. the tsunami

2004 the year of disasters, both natural and otherwise…

Well, it said you were inspired by her. So you are inspired by people who change their views depending on who they are screwing?

If that were the case, then I’d be quite a fan of Bush, wouldn’t I?

No, he said he was inspired by her list - which, if you even read it, was pretty good. Who gives a shit about whether her opinions have changed or not. You’re supposed to address the argument, not the arguer!

And anyway, you’re one to talk about vacillating…

As for my own list:

  1. having several people I love pass away, including my dear sweet mom

  2. watching a back-hoe tear down the wall around my back yard because some annoying neighbor with political influence had a grudge against us

  3. the fact that Fred and his cheap-labor cronies got to have their suit-and-tie victory party

  4. the fact that my favorite place in the world and a lot of nice people got obliterated by a 10-meter-high wall of water

  5. hearing the supporters of a cowardly, pampered faux-bubba repeatedly questioning the patriotism and resolve of a genuine war hero

  6. having my in-laws stay with us twice in one year

  7. getting a sparkling new paint job on my car, and then smacking into a column in the parking garage a couple of weeks later

  8. Zhang Fei’s renditions of a bunch of shmaltzy love songs, now on CD

  9. the Taiwan presidential election back in May, which was annoying as all Hell in every respect

  10. the fact that Bin Laden released a new tape days before the US election and sealed the deal for his biggest beneficiary (subsequently resulting in #3, above!)

Not to quibble Vay, but you are aware that you are rather in the minority in holding the amusing notion that the OBL tape helped Bush right? Polls leading up to the election showed it as being a boost for Kerry (OBL helpfully giving the voters a reminder that he hadn’t been caught), as did the exit polls, which showed that a majority of those who thought the tape to be “very important” voted for Kerry, while a majority of those who found it “not at all important” voted for Bush. Not a big deal though in the bigger scheme of things I suppose… shrug

Cheers,
H

having months of US election hype on one of the few english channels available.

I want to forget about the time I went back to the States to visit. Because I never went back to the States to visit and everytime I think about it I see spots and the vein in my forehead starts throbbing and my teeth start grinding together.

I want to forget everytime I did not have the strenght to forgive myself and others. I need to forgive before I can forget.

I need to add. This is not an attempt to prove this thread ill-advised. I hold sympathy for many posters in this thread and I would agree that some things are better off forgotten(If that’s ever possible…) as there is no one to blame or to forgive.
That was just what I’d like to forget.
Time’s like Christmas 2004, I’m struggling not to embrace indignation. Never mind trying to forgive… Time will help.

I was hoping that my lender would forget the last bit of my grad school loans.

No such luck. Cheap bastards. :raspberry: :fume:

My shiny new truck I had to sell before I came here.

I thought it would be hard to forget, but I’m actually doing pretty well. I don’t even cry over it anymore.

I agree with you 914. My shiny new Audi, my shiny new house WITH central heating and air, and everything I left back home since when I decided I was coming over I left within 3 weeks so I didn’t have much time for packing. Fortunately though, it was worth it, and I have two boxes full of junk I left that my ever loving mother is sending over right now.

Yes, I know the exact same feeling. Replace States with NZ though.

I feel your pain, buddy. I really do. From the bottom of my heart.

But! Let’s forget about that! It’s in the past! Let’s do this thread justice and look forward to an even better 2005!

I want to forget the… er… you know… all that nasty business earlier… bugger, can’t remember it now.
