Not too many changes in the top 20. Duke jumped up from 52nd to 11th and L’Ecole Polytechnique jumped up 17 places. Everyone else was more or less there last year.

NTU fell back from 102nd to 114th place. Anyone know the reason for this?

Ooohh… nice to see UniMelb climbing the ranks.

NTU… been studying there for 2 months now and I do not see it breaking top 100 anytime soon without major institutional wide changes.

Since you have to register to view this stuff:

Is this for undergraduate or graduate studies or both?
How were the rankings determined?
What do the numbers mean after each university?
Do they provide the scores that determined the rank?

Apparently, they have the following categories:

The World’s top 200 universities
The world’s top 100 science universities
The world’s top 100 technology universities
Top non-university institutions in science
Top non-university institutions in technology
The world’s top arts and humanities universities
The world’s top social science universities
The world’s top non-universities in social science
Top 100 biomedicine universities
Top non-university institutions in biomedicine

The list posted was just “top 200 universities.” Their ranking system is scored as follows:

Peer review score (40%)
Recruiter review (10%)
Int’l faculty score (5%)
Int’l students score (5%)
Faculty/student score (20%)
Citations/faculty score (20%)
EDIT: The last score is the “total”

I have no idea how meaningful these numbers are. They put my university (UT at Austin) at 26th in the world. But when I look at rankings from US News and World Report, they put UT at 25th in America. Something’s not right about that.

How far up your arse do you need to be to care, exactly? If you went to a Uni outside the top 50 do you just keep quiet and get on with your life? :help:

I’ve just noticed! :astonished: All of these universities are generally in Western countries (CCP excepted as they surely have a drugs related result)! :astonished: Jeeez - that must mean everybody in Africa is plain stupid! :unamused: Nothing to do with the lifestyle and money these people grew up with then! :smiling_imp:

NTU’s rankings both worldwide and in Asia have been dropping for a number of years now. I think a lot of it has to do with institutional problems that the school isn’t willing to reform, resources, and lack of participation in things like international conferences, submitting papers to international academic journals, etc. Many professors at NTU seem content to have all of their “research” published in NTU journals or obscure journals that would publish anything … not to mention the quality of the student population (myself not included  ) has been decreasing dramatically.

NTU has a lot of problems, enough to make me considering not doing my Ph.D. there anymore. :s

Is there a comprehensive list somewhere that doesn’t require registration? Is this like the US News and World Report listing of the top universities, just worldwide?
