Times of year for sales?

Hello all, when do sales usually occur in Taiwan, and for what things? For example, in the US I’d refer to an article like this one.

And more immediately, are stores generally open over the holidays for Chinese New Year?

Sales alwaya around Chinese New Year as people have red envelopes to buy things.
Other than that, there’s sales at other times.
In the summer, I’ve bought Apple laptops from department stores that gave nearly 10% of the laptop’s price in free store coupons or VAT deductions.

What are you looking to buy?

Most department stores have their big anniversary sales in the fall. You can often get 10% off, or coupons equivalent to 10% off.

Carrefour has sales all the time. 10% off purchases totaling over 2,000 today, I think, for example.

Chinese New Year: smaller independent shops may close. Chains are open over the holidays, with maybe brief closures for a half day.

online shopping days: 11/11
12/12 (shoppee website)
black Friday sales and cyber Monday sales also (at Costco )

IMHO : sales aren’t that lucrative here as in the usa, and with amazon offering free shipping over 60usd, you are better off buying from there. also, online shopping websites like shoppee offer competitive prices year round, never had a need to wait for a specific time of year for discounts.

As with most things here, I don’t think sales are regulated at all.

Carrefour is specially funny. Sometimes they have the yellow price, 98NT. Then in small font they say the original price was 99NT.

Some small shops don’t even price their products. You have to ask the staff for every damn thing.

Haha, well we just moved here in suitcases, so…almost everything? Home office stuff, furniture, electronics, clothing, etc. Of course we’ll just buy what we need right now, but I figure for things that aren’t immediate needs it’d be nice to get a discount on them.

In the US I’d browse Slickdeals, but I’m not sure there’s an equivalent here.

You can get a lot of good used and also discounted new stuff that people don’t need (e.g. prizes from the weiya lotteries) on Carousell, Facebook groups, and occasionally on Craigslist.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… :notes:

There are maybe two times a year known as sale times and people line up for hours before department stores open and then rush through the doors at opening.

I don’t remember when or why.

Right now seems like a good time to buy an electric heater, or maybe even after Chinese New Year. They are priced down a lot.

I plan to look for end-of-summer clothes sales next time. I hope that I can remember. End-of-winter sales are no good since I never wear winter clothes.
