I still use Facebook because some Groups are genuinely useful. Also, I use it to keep in touch with some Taiwanese friends as it actually still seems to be popular there.
I’m slowly losing interest. No conscious decision or anything. It’s just not really that interesting anymore. My friends and relatives in the US barely use it.
The feed has also definitely changed to where it is now easily 60% things NOT related to your friends. Shorts, news, ads, stuff in groups you’re not a part of trying to get your attention, etc.
Facebook may be on its way out even. They have that HUGE HUGE HUGE headquarters near redwood city. Its incredible.
Facebook is a cesspool of scams and spams from the worst people around the globe, based on my experience with FB groups and a business page. Only use it for work and whenever there is a problem it is a nightmare to go through all the menus or settings I will never use. ![]()
At this point, it may be helpful to understand the history of f-book and its beginnings, with a leaked exchange from 2004 between its founder Zuck whatever his name is and a friend:
- Zuck: Yea so if you ever need info about anyone at harvard
- Zuck: Just ask
- Zuck: I have over 4000 emails, pictures, addresses, sns
- Friend: What!? how’d you manage that one?
- Zuck: People just submitted it
- Zuck: I don’t know why
- Zuck: They “trust me”
- Zuck: Dumb fucks [1, 2, 3]

Thanks for providing sources. I’ve seen this floating around, but assumed it was some kind of attempt at ironic humour.
In the 2020s, real life has become more extreme than humour. ![]()

Yup and he’s one of the richest people on the planet
I don’t know everything, but he had a great idea and apparently actually asked his classmates. The something something brothers who sued him and got some money to write the basic software and at first people thought it was some sort of official Harvard thing you know you could put your information there and people could post notes on it and it was just a fun thing at first and everybody likes to be part of a crowd so people were happy to be invited. I remember a girlfriend a long time ago. She was in Cornell and she s like oh I got this invite from some guy in Harvard I didn’t know what this is, but she was impressed about that and people like the ability to post something on the bulletin board essentially Facebook succeeded where my space.com did not succeed and then that idea just grew and grew and eventually somebody was smart enough to say this can be commercialized and there you go eventually we have Facebook and it went worldwide and people started liking the idea of having a Facebook page and having people post on your page and etc. etc. it filled in need around the world a big need apparently and that’s why it’s such a success, but I don’t understand why it needs such a huge headquarters. I mean if you’ve driven past Facebook’s headquarters it’s just incredibly large and so many people work there. I don’t know what those people do and they might all be replaced by AI.
No, Tommy, NO! Do not get sucked into the dark hole of AI girlfriend scammers again!
Just kidding I won’t
Did you get any responses?
