To overstayers: Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program till June 30, 2023

Continuing the discussion from Proposed New Immigration Measures (January 2023 edition):

might be better to be a topic.

https://www.immigration.gov.tw/5475/5478/141457/142068/334511/

they encourage overstayers show up before the penalties are increased.

  • exemption from detention
  • payment of a minimum fine of NT$2,000
  • no prohibition on entering the country

the NIA provides a toll-free hotline 0800-024-881 (ByeBye) with multilingual services to the public and overstayers to inquire about the program.

Do many of the 10+ years over stayers have a pot to pee in to even fly out and return, I wonder?
And if they got back, they would have to go legit. Would they eventually overstay again? Could many of them go legit?
The 150K fine and 10 year ban - how would they fund the fine and deportation?

They better take advantage of the amnesty period
It’s a generous offer

10 posts were split to a new topic: Not legal advice From overstayers

Honestly it’s a bitter pill for many to be forced to leave

But the amnesty is a good one
Better than jail and ten year expulsion and a huge fine

Take the 2000 fine and. Get the fcuk out

It’s tough for phillippino people who need the job and can’t just come back in easily

Taiwan needs to simplify its blue collar application and put a stop to brokers

They should be given say a 3 year pass to work for anyone under the work classification they came in on

Free to leave and come back

And free to apply for citizenship after 5 years of residency

Taiwan can solve its need of younger people very easily by allowing young residents the right to marry and citizenship

ROFLLLLLLLL.

Can you imagine if CBP did the same thing in the U.S. for a similar hotline targeted towards illegals?

Thanks Tando for posting the information about the amnesty for illegal immigrants. I was able to pass the information on to some people who were able to benefit from this.

From what I heard illegal immigrants turning themselves in in Taipei were dealt with politely and according to the rules of the announced amnesty. They were asked whether they had worked during the period of overstay and whether they had remitted money back home. I don’t know whether a migrant worker who admitted doing this would be liable for tax or anything, but it seems the immigration agents weren’t particularly anxious about investigating the illegal immigrant’s earnings. They also asked whether the migrants had enough money to return home.

This amnesty, ending in a few days, is a good opportunity for illegal immigrants to return home. Most blue collar SE Asian illegal immigrants won’t take advantage of it, however, because although they’re in principle allowed to return on any valid visa, they may have problems coming back again as blue collar workers.
