Tom Yum Goong Movie

I don’t normally go for action movies but I checked this one out and think those of you who like do like them should check this out. Some of the action sequences are amazing. The first few scenes are in rural Thailand and feature some truly beautiful shots of Thailand and elephants. A new style of Muay Thai based on an elephant’s movement were developed specially for the film. Some of the fight scenes are reminiscent of the Double Dragon video game (ie a little guy taking on guys who look like Professional Wrestlers) or whatever the latest fight games are.

The movie is set both in rural Thailand and urban Sydney. Languages spoken in the movie are English, Thai and Chinese. Sub-titles are all in Chinese. The action mostly tells the story though.

Official movie site here.

FYI this movie is the sequel to Ong Bak.

Cheers. That explains the 2 in the movie’s Chinese name. I haven’t seen Ong-Bak so I’d say this movie is definitely possible to see with no knowledge of the first a la Terminator 2 etc.

NO, it’s not.

The Chinese title bills it as “ONG BAK 2” but it was, and is unreleated to ONG BAK, save same director and actor (Tony Jaa).

Ong Bak sucked. Predictable. Wire stunts a plenty, despite the lie that everything was done “real time and for real.”

TYG is a LOT better.

Because one of the baddies was none other than Nathan Jones - an Aussie ex con who was also a professional wrestler!

Jones had a great bit in the relatively poor POLICE STORY IV: FIRST STRIKE, with Jackie Chan.

Jones hovers 'round a legit 7ft in height, and with Chan being 5ft 6, he looked that much taller. He chases chan around a Sydney rooftop.

Jones also got smoked by Brad Pitt in ALEXANDER.

The dude is so big it’s hard to miss 'em.

He used to wrestle with the World’s Worst Entertaiment, er WWE, between 2001-2003, under his real name.
