Tomatillos -- where to find?

Has anyone ever seen tomatillos available anywhere in Taiwan?

There are a number of Mexican food dishes I’d like to make that require them.

Gracias.

Some people might not know what these are, so here are some pictures and alternate names they might be sold under. Maybe someone has seen them in a gourmet supermarket?
The tomatillo is also known as the husk tomato, jamberry, husk cherry, mexican tomato, or ground cherry, although these names can also refer to other species in the Physalis genus. In Spanish it is called tomate de cáscara, tomate de fresadilla, tomate milpero, tomate verde (“green tomato”), tomatillo (Mexico [this term means “little tomato” elsewhere]), miltomate (Mexico, Guatemala), or simply tomate (in which case the tomato is called jitomate). Even though tomatillos are sometimes called “green tomatoes”, they should not be confused with green, unripe tomatoes.
(Wiki)

And here are some links about tomatillos:

They sell tomatillos in cans at the City Mall Supermarket, B2, in the new Sogo (Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station). It was about $120 for one can.

Ooooh, if I manage to hunt down some fresh ones, do I get invited over for dinner?

Thank you twocs, for the tip.

If anyone sees them sold in the produce section, let me know.

Cheers.

Is this similar to tomacco?

Reimer seeds has tomatillo seeds, in case you want to try growing them on the balcony. They deliver to Taiwan.

City Super has pickled tomatillos in a jar, in the “Mexican” food section (where they have taco sauce, salsa, and other stuff). 145 nts if I’m not mistaken, for a medium size jar.

Has anyone seen canned tomatillos recently? I used to see them in City Super (or Jason’s, or both?) but haven’t been able to find them lately.

Places without tomatillos that I’ve been to in the past couple of weeks: City Supers at Zhongxiao Fuxing and Zhishan MRT stations; Tianmu Jason’s; Breeze Center.

I suppose my only current hopes are the 101 Jason’s, and the various import stores scattered around Tianmu.

Canned tomatillos, currently available at the Tianmu Carrefour. First time I’ve seen them here since, well, before my last post in this thread. So it’s been a while.

I can’t see your pictures, I get the blue box question mark.

Psst … you’re responding to a post from eleven years ago.

Boy, this is the weekend of the undead threads. :zombie:‍♂ :woman_zombie:

Hey, if long-disappeared groceries can return from the dead, so can threads.

Of course…I knew that.
