Tommys cycling bits and bobs

hey hows about a place to talk about the fine bits and bobs of cycling. tires/ wheels/ brakes, clothing, anything and everything for the everyday cyclist. everyones opionion is a go.

i talked bout brakes last time and now i got a set of real nice hydraulic brakes that actually work, just no idea how long its all gonna last.

now how bout tires. So my bike is a hybrid wanna be mountain bike mixed with wanna be street bike and not the best for either but not too bad for both.

fits me. The mtn bike tammys got which i cant ride cuz its a SMALL and i need a MEDIUM frame. But its got knobby 650 x 55 mm tires/wheels. And my bike has 700c x 45 on back on by circumstance of trial / error has 700c x 38 in front. And the mtn bike is a hard tail, meaning shocks in front. The hybrid has zero shocks (shocker i know).
anyway previously i switch out the 45mm tires to 38mm front and back but was dissappointed that the bike did not ride easier or faster and in fact the ride, no surprise was rougher. So ive been doing 38 front and 45 back (dint work too well the reverse). And its been ok. But i swapped out the 650 x 55 from the mtn bike for the front. Perfect fit And the ride has improved. And the skinny 38 on the front of the mtn bike didnt seem to hurt the ride as it has front shocks.

However, although deep seek doesnt agree i seem to think that knobby tires generally avoid punctures better or at least that has my very limited experience. I have had two flats on my hybrid 45mm tires. Now i know that just having goop in the tires aint enough. Because it doesnt take much to puncture the tube big enough that the goop doesnt work.

just had that happen on the 45mm tire (which is a hybrid tire with no knobs and is quite smooth like a road tire). So i do feel that knobby tires seem to avoid more punctures.
Now i am going to take with me in a small backpack a 650 tube and a 700 tube cuz of the mis matched tires on my bike next time i go across the GG bridge. I just have been taking way too much of a chance prior. An uber would be an expensive way home from Sausalito to SF in sunset district i imagine.

having spare tubes (now just gotta get a small airpump / or air cannisters). I think a small air pump is more my speed.

experimenting with air pressures and assuming 240 pounts bike and rider the front 55 should be no less than 25psi according to deep seek. And the back 45mm tire should be around 35psi optimally.

We have a cycling forum.

Yeah can you dump this thread in that fir me preferably its own thread as otherwise its buried

This is more on the little bits and pieces of cycling rather than cycling exploits
