Top 10 things about living in Taiwan pro and cons

Come on, try and help the little guy with his assignment.

Pros

  1. The monarchy which rules the island
  2. Bitcoin as the national currency is great
  3. Fully autonomous vehicles on the roads, make for excellent traffic safety
  4. Japanese language, being the most commonly spoken, is easy to pick up
  5. High salaries
  6. Multiculturalism
  7. Cosmetic surgery is free for foreigners
  8. Chinese burritos
  9. Taiwan pork
  10. The imperial palace

Cons

None.

No way, I do.

Why is it that we sometimes get notifications when posts are moved/deleted and other times not? Some of the references to ā€œkidā€ don’t make sense anymore…

(I didn’t mind being told to fvk off, incidentally)

Of course everything turns into a debate about food.

Pros

  1. Little to no drug abuse and alcoholism, and by extentsion, little to no crime and aggression.
  2. Cheap internet and phone plan that actually work.
  3. Low(er) cost of living (water, electricity, petroleum, public transport, services, food, taxi etc.). Whoever believes otherwise needs to get with the programme.
  4. General convenience, as in easy to get a lot of things done which would be a nightmare elsewhere, e.g. changing a lock on a Sunday or buy a new tooth brush at 3am in the morning.
  5. Variety of non-alcoholic, non-soft beverages and fruits.
  6. Healthcare (for the most part).
  7. Objectively speaking, first and secondary education (top PISA and TIMSS performer country without even trying), which contributes to the lack of drug abuse and teenage pregnancies.
  8. Disaster management. 99% of the time after a massive typhoon things go back to normal the next day and floods rarely last more than a few hours. A similar scale of natural disaster would be devastating pretty much everywhere else.
  9. Hiking and mountain biking options (if you are into them anyway).
  10. General speaking, high level of tolerance. I see lots of same-sex PDA on the streets and nobody pays attention to it, which is extremely rare worldwide.

Cons

  1. Road safety and sidewalk. So basically all the motorbikes.
  2. Shabby af buildings and real estate.
  3. Population density.
  4. China.
  5. Job opportunities.
  6. Terrible climate.
  7. Pollution in winter. Yes only in winter. You are deluded if you believe otherwise.
  8. General boredom. People don’t party and don’t drink much. Most gatherings involve food only, include weddings.
  9. TV, both dramatic television and the press.
  10. Few hot guys. Most guys are too short and unfit.

I never enjoyed Thai food until I moved to Taiwan. Now I miss it. Haha.

Oyster are grown in places that have lots of industrial run off. Look around.

Zzzzz are you dying from all the industrial waste consumption?

personally, mostly from the terrible air quality, and that because i don’t eat seafood…

I don’t eat seafood in Taiwan. I’ve seen the places it’s grown and seen where the water comes from.

Lol k.

I never get the famous stuff in Taiwan.

Often they are overpriced, and you must often wait in line to get it. And it’s often not much better than the next guy. I suspect there’s some money involved in getting some famous guy to eat there then proclaim it as the famous place.

In fact some of the best food places are in an alley, that few but the locals of the area know about.

Not all. Tainan grows a lot.

OK just don’t eat anything. Job done.

It’s not a weird thing. It is famous in Asia. It’s one of the first impressions about Taiwan for Chinese, Japanese, HKers and Singaporeans.

Just because you are ignorant about it doesn’t mean it’s not famous. Do you think people give a flying fuck about Mexican food outside America?

I understand Mexicans are quite fond of it

I know a Norwegian guy who really likes it too.

(I’m enjoying how this thread is evolving )

yes, even the person who said

is still debating the food

anyways, if my top pro about living in taiwan mexico is the food (i’m also a fan of the women) i guess my top con for mexico would be the danger

I’m not ignorant about it. I just prefer not to eat muck.

Wouldn’t know. Haven’t been to either. And I don’t particularly like Mexican food.

Missing the point as per usual.

Can you list the top 10 cuisines you’ve had.
