4072?

I’ve heard that, according to the Chinese Calendar, this is the year 4072.

I’m wondering, what event marked Year 0?

The beginning of Chinese history and culture, no wait, that would make it the year 5,000.
So what year is it then ? 4072, 93, 2004, Monkey ?

It’s probably no great surprise that most of the references to this being year xxxx of the Chinese calendar are essentially meaningless, which is revealed by the diversity of opinion on the subject. Usually, the date is related to the Yellow Emperor. But since he’s a mythological figure, well, so are the dates.

My guess is the start (or right before the start depending on how long you believed the Xia were around) of the Xia dynasty or the Shun, Yao, mr. Yellow Trilogy with the Great Flood preceding it when men lived in trees and didnt know how to divert waters.
