Tornadoes in Taiwan

See the second scene about a tornado in Taiwan
WTF that was scary

What’s the scoop on that one ?

Yes, Tornados F1, F2 are more and more normal these days in plains like Tainan, Yunlin and Pingdong . Their humid and hot steam from agriculture and plantations mixing up with cold air.

Sometimes very rare F1 in Taipei due to the extreme heat from the Cement City and their geography like a bowl and then mixed with the cold air from above.

Wait. You are saying we have to worry about tornadoes IN ADDITION to the typhoons and earthquakes!?

We really have it all.

haha, just like any bad temporal or strong storm. You might get a 5% chance of get a tornado next to you if you are in a plain site in Tainan,Yunlin or Pingdong.

Typhoon and Lighting Strike are more dangerous are more likely to kill you than a tornado.

Nope. Refuse to believe the video. That’s clearly Taiwantown in Texas.

Tornados happen everywhere (apart from Antartica), most commonly in the United Kingdom, according to this.

“However, the UK has the most tornadoes per area per year, 0.14 per 1000 km2, although these tornadoes are generally weak, and many other European countries have a similar number of tornadoes per area.”

They freak me out a bit. Only seen 2 here but those 2 scare me more than all the typhoons in my time here. The ones i s aw were water spouts. Sprouts? Something. I dont know the differences, but 1 of them moved a medium sized excavator in the river. Big enough!

Taiwan also can have decent hail balls. Pingdong gets them sometimes, its a bit of a shock on a hot day!

Lovely!

Whereabouts? I feel like it’s barely even stormed in the few years I’ve been here.

Pingdong (Pingtung) is the southernmost county . Flatlands, central to be specific for what i have seen. Its not a common thing, but not super rare either.3

Another one in Hualien

It got me thinking. This past typhoon. Kong rey, I was in the valley in taitung and the winds were insanely extreme. Much like last year’s devasting one in September. The winds were (at least we feel haha) WAY beyond the the CWA general ratings. Like really a much stronger and all of a sudden, not a progressive stronger.

I am curious, is the government capable of detecting tornados from satelite dring such heavy cloud? I’m wondering if possibly here could be more than one, given how strong things got for about 15 ish minutes. Being at night, and we were in a place with few people, I doubt any videos would be likely.

I also was checking the cwa wind directions and the typhoon also morenor less “split” into 2 and at one point there were 3 small eyes around Taiwan, which was pretty interesting. I wonder if this type of violent smash into the mountains at that angle could create little mini cyclones, or tornados?
