Tpass - Monthly Transit Pass for Multiple Cities and Counties

TPass cards will be able to be reloaded in convenience stores starting today (Sept. 6th). Convenience stores will also add TPass plans allowing you to use your EasyCard and add a TPass plan to your card. Dedicated TPass cards will also be sold at convenience stores as well.

Still waiting for the damn TRA to allow me to scan my mobile TPass QR code so I don’t have to keep double paying for my rides. :person_facepalming:t2:

FINALFUCKINGLY

Is there any online map of what the tpass covers?

There are countless articles but not maps.

It’s mainly helpful for foreigners/tourists…

Last time someone asked, the answer was no.

How would it work when going to juifen, shifen? TPass will work for that?

It should

What’s the best way to go, train, bus, MRT and bus?

Train or bus. You may need to transfer.

Basically whatever way you used to use to get to Jiufen works, except this time you don’t need to pay extra fare to do so.

Watch out for one bus, bus 1717 that starts at Taipei main station, goes through Yangming Shan and to Zhingshan. That bus DOES NOT accept the TPass, it says so on the bus. I do not know why because all other 4 digit highway buses, and even those GuoKuan highway buses that goes to Keelung or Taoyuan airport takes the Tpass. I do not know what other exclusion to the tpass are there… just know them ahead of time because a lot of these highway buses have low frequency.

Just went today. Took the train to RuiFang. The bus no 1062 to Juifen. All on the TPass. They had signs in English at the RuiFang train station on how to take the bus.

I tried to add the TPass at a 7-11 but the store I went to isn’t nearby the Taoyuan train station which is where I live. I’m guessing if you live outside of Taipei you can only add it at stores that are close to a train station.

Familymart Only

Ok I’ve given up on waiting for the TRA to allow TPass QR codes, so I’m going to buy a physical card. A few questions for those who have already done it:

  1. The news report above mentioned the ability to buy and load a TPass monthly plan onto an existing EasyCard. Can it also be loaded onto an existing iPass Card?

  2. If I buy a brand new TPass Card, will it also function as a regular EasyCard? If so, would it also function as a regular iPass Card? (My gym only accepts payments via iPass Card, and not EasyCard.)

  3. When time comes to repurchase a new monthly plan at the end of the month, how is it done? Can I do it through an app? Will I need to physically make the purchase at a 7-11 or MRT station? If I purchase through an app, will I still need to scan my pass at a 7-11 or MRT customer service counter? Or can I just scan it at the fare gate itself?

Disclaimer: I am getting the $399 Kaohsiung TPass which is sold in partnership with MenGo, not EasyCard (I believe).

  1. Yes. iPass i believe so too. I use a keychain Easycard.

  2. Yes easycard. Might be different down south. Just buy a keychain iPass IMO.

  3. I renew at the MRT, MRT machines or Familymart

Ok thanks. I just bought my TPass. Here are the answers to my questions in case anyone else is interested:

The following applies to TPass Cards for the three counties of southern Taiwan (Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung).

  1. A TPass monthly travel pass is a virtual pass which is purchased in the MenGo app after initial registration. The pass you purchase can be a QR code, or can be loaded onto a physical card that you link in the app. The physical card may be an iPass or a TPass card, but NOT EasyCard.

  2. A TPass card may also be used as a regular iPass card but NOT an EasyCard.

  3. Upon purchasing a monthly plan (either initial or subsequent purchases) in the MenGo app, you must scan your physical TPass or iPass card at a 7-11 ibon or at a KMRT/TRA customer service counter for the pass to be ā€œloadedā€ onto said card. There are no TPass ā€œloadingā€ machines at KMRT stations. You also cannot ā€œloadā€ the passes on a bus or light rail.

Bonus: Upon initial purchase of your first TPass card and after linking it to your MenGo app, you can go to the checkout counter (POS, not ibon) of any convenience store for a $100 rebate, which will be loaded onto your TPass card to be used for regular purchases.

Reading all of this makes me think it’s a mess. In the north I just had the Tpass put on my ā€˜physical’ Easycard. Now I wonder if I can reload it in a 7-11 or FamilyMart as it’s run out its 30 days validity and I can’t use it on the bus I have to take to get to the MRT where I normally reload it on expiry day. But due to circumstances couldn’t do that this month (thanks to having COVID)

A huge mess. One that I wouldn’t have to go through if the TRA would only accept the QR passes.

You should be able to reload it at a 7-11 ibon. I have the same issue. I only take the light rail, and I never remember to renew my pass until I’ve already gotten on the tram, where I can’t renew it.

Regarding reloading, this can be done early, can’t it? Mine goes until 10/6. I can reload before then for a new start on 10/7, right?

If you reload within 10 days of the expiry it gets extended 30 days.
