Traditional Tea House

I live in Shilin and am looking for a traditional tea house in north Taipei. I know there’s an excellent one in Daan but I’d like to find somewhere a little closer.

Any ideas?

What constitutes traditional?

My favorite teahouse is in Maokong (there are at least three dozen there to choose from). I like 緣繼緣, a conspicuous brick building to the right of the gondola station as you exit it, set back in a big parking lot. It’s got a pond inside that you have to step over to get to the tea rooms. Half of the rooms have glass-bottom floors so you can see the fish underneath your feet, and the other half have nice views of the mountains leading to central Taipei. I can provide pictures if you want.

Maokong is great, but, um, NORTH Taipei?

And same question, actually. You’d think there’d be one or two nice ones in Danshui, but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed any.

I assume traditional means Chinese-y decor and carp and little cups and fancy tea sets that I don’t quite know what to do with. You know, the kind where you discover you’ve been drinking out of the finger bowl for years.

Maokong is a little far away but I’d still appreciate the info, Hokwongwei.

And yes, by traditional I mean finger bowls and paraphernalia. North Taipei would be great.

Whoops, there went all my years of critical reading education.

How north is north? I’ve heard good things about a coffee shop on Dihua St., I think somewhere between Shuanglian and Minquan W Rd. I expect Beitou would have one or two.

my favorite place in Beipu, 水井茶堂. Get Oriental Beauty either cold brew or hot.

I started this thread on Maokong years ago but most places are still around:

In Dadaocheng on Dihua Street above Hakka Blue there’s a lovely teahouse in a restored 90 year old shophouse.

If you want something in northern Taipei similar to Wistaria, there’s Little Six Tea House in Beitou. Similar ambience, also a historic building.

Cool. Thanks. Will be trying it.

It is a bit off topic but you guys should try this place: shi-yang.com/

Just go outside and go left. When you come to the smell of teas. STOP. That’s it.
Stop trolling. Or am I maybe wrong?

EDIT: On the other hand, in the event that I am wrong, go across the north East West hiway and turn left at the intersection. Stop at the first town you come to. Have a cup of tea on me.

You found me out fair and square. I don’t actually want to indulge a cultural interest of mine. I chose tea as a trolling topic because all the juicy ones are taken. :bravo:

I’ll pop your directions into Google and see what comes up.

Don’t take it personally. 2enigma is suspicious of anyone with fewer than 100 posts who uses question marks. (What he doesn’t know is I’ve been secretly building up a reputation on this board, all with the malicious intent of unveiling my troll nature when I get to 3,712 posts!)

Let the good times (t)roll.
