Trump administration attacks on free speech

If You Hate America, Why Come Here? - WSJ

We can afford to be a little forgiving of the radical passions of our campus revolutionaries. Then again, the law is the law, and it has no obligation to forgive. If Mr. Khalil has behaved as alleged in support of terrorism, then I can see a case that he should be shipped home, wherever that is.
If it can be further proved that Mr. Khalil violated the civil rights of Jewish students on Columbia’s campus, he can go in the cargo hold as far as I’m concerned. If the door happens to hit him on the way out, so much the better.
With all that in mind, what’s the big rush? The man’s wife is evidently eight months pregnant. The humane thing to do is to wait until the facts get sorted out. At that point, if it’s warranted, give him the boot. Maybe he can be persuaded to go voluntarily. A little forbearance would reflect well on us as a country. Even if Mr. Khalil doesn’t deserve it and even if the America haters will never give us credit.

Because we’re a country with freedom of speech for everyone, or the whole American idea is just a useless sack of shit basically.

Is that right? Can just say whatever we want? You sure about that? I can think of a few counterpoints to that claim right off the top of my head. Ergo, nah.

I’m all for let’s the see the evidence against this guy. Let’s see what the rules are to those folks with Green Cards. I’m not going to jump to

false dichotomy, which looks great on tshirt or a meme.

I think we can do better.

Nah this is just more authoritarian grandstanding from Trump. The guy never committed a crime. His only crime is speech the government doesn’t like.

So long as only uppity brown people are deported to silence them, waterboarded to get them to confess, or caged at Gulagtanamo for years without charges or trial in order to make America great again I’m okay with that. If they ever start pulling that shit on white people though I’m going to have a problem with it.

I’m not seeing that this has been determined.

Is it a crime to be in violation of one’s Green Card obligations? Was he?

Still some clarity lacking.

Speech and behavior.

What of it turns out he’s been sending money or pooling money to send to charities and whatnot connected to Hamas?

He’s Syrian believe, so he should know how things work back home.

He’s never been charged with a crime, why should we think he committed a crime? Not because these lying pieces of garbage in this government are trying to deport him, that’s for sure.

Protest is speech. What if it turns out he stole my grannie’s underwear? You’re making stuff up.

This is America, not Syria, and I’d prefer to keep it that way.

Yeah this is the issue that needs clarity.

Yeah yeah. Sure. Lying pieces of shit— let me get that down. Now are they the first lying pos government the US has had— involved in this war?

Nope. There are lots of videos of this guy in action. I imagine the tapes are being reviewed.

But I thought we had a lying pos government?

I think I’ve been clear enough!

Have you!?! :joy:

Yes, POS, garbage, uh, authoritarian, — I don’t think you’ve gone full Dump or Sofa yet, so there’s hope!

Anyway— the spin has been 8 month pregnant wife and to me, that’s the reason the admin should walk this back.that alone is horrible . Put the guy back in a NY jail, and let’s see what the feds have on him.

No one likes to see a queen take a pawn. It’s boring.

First the punishment, then the trial.

Now that drone lynching of American citizens is legal I think we all need to watch what we say from here on out.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) filed a lawsuit in 2012 challenging the government’s targeted killing of three U.S. citizens in drone strikes far from any armed conflict zone. Oral argument was held in July 2013 in Washington, and the court dismissed the case in April 2014.

It’s just too easy to assume that kind of Stalinist nonsense. So, again, here are the issues associated with Gren Card holders that seem relevant to this case:

Violating Green Card Standards

  1. Definition:
  • Green Card holders (lawful permanent residents) must comply with certain rules to maintain their residency, including:
    • Residing primarily in the U.S.
    • Not engaging in fraud or misrepresentation.
    • Avoiding criminal activity.
    • Renewing the Green Card as required.
    • Not abandoning residency (e.g., spending prolonged periods outside the U.S. without proper documentation).
  1. Consequences:
  • Violations can result in revocation of Green Card status and deportation.
  • Examples of violations:
    • Living outside the U.S. for extended periods without maintaining ties to the country.
    • Failing to disclose required information to immigration authorities.
    • Participating in acts deemed harmful to U.S. interests.

No criminal charges (yet) but who knows. Some of those protests were chaotic, and breaking a law at university for example, occupying a building on campus, destruction of property, etc, doesn’t shield you from criminal prosecution, afaik.

but the real issue is failing to disclose and the harmful acts. No one likes an audit. This guy is now being audited.

be nice to know how long that will take.

Certainly don’t say anything about, you know, err some countries, well one very special and not bad at all country who is our special friend

Appears it’s based on power granted by immigration law to the Sec of State to determine that the accused is undermining US foreign policy/security.
Looks like they’re grabbing at straws to set precedent but we’ll see

Well, it goes to show you how weak and soft the foreign policy and security of the US is. Pretty much any form of protest could be “undermining US foreign policy/security”. They should deport the MF in this administration on that basis honestly.

Expect them to deport citizens to Panama next

Maybe they can nail Khalil for insurrection, election interference, or paying hush money to a porn star.

He’s a Hamas communist, not a patriot.
