This is incorrect. It was sold to a Hong Kong company. A Chinese company later made a takeover offer for the HK company and as a condition for approval, the government required a pre-takeover divestment of the port. Thus, the port was never in Chinese hands, unless you consider HK as China.
I was tangentially involved in the first deal.
