So what’s standard choice of items, shop near me lets me choose five (but mostly I choose 3, jelly, peanuts and red/black bean and just bigger portions). Price now is T$65 (bit higher than last summer!). not as cheap as it once was!
In Japan when I was younger it was bit cheaper if I remember right.
I think the really traditional toppings are red bean with condensed milk, and perhaps with a raw egg on top. They used to call it the tsukimi (月見).
I personally like seasonal fruit toppings, or the macha ones.
In Kaohsiung, this is our go-to place:
黃家粉圓冰
No. 131, Henan 2nd Rd, Qianjin District, Kaohsiung
高雄市前金區河南二路131號
is this the same as shaved ice places?
Yes. Tshuah (礤) is Taigi for shaving something into slices or strips.
mango plus other fruits for me please
humble request to change ‘ICE deserts’ to ‘shaved ice desserts’ in the title? Unless 礤冰 is related to recent US immigration actions in the Sonoran desert…?
Isnt this one just crushed ice?
I prefer dou hua. You get the, toppings, you still get the ice and you get dou hua too. Its superior.
Xue hua bing is good too (the shaved one). Usually fancier and the ice is (usually?)milk not just ice.
I never tried raw egg, will have to try that!
These are good for staving off summer heat for about 30 minutes after eating them, and at least in Danshui are not too expensive. I have trouble finding them in Taipei for some reason. These shops are getting less and less common, having all been replaced with bubble tea shops. Given that bubble tea have less cooling power compared to shaved ice, and that they cost the same, shaved ice is better value.
I was talking about ICE food in the food section about local Taiwan, has nothing to do about the USA ice police officers? Not sure why USA people need add in internal USA topics when it’s about Taiwan’s food?
I just meant that the title is currently written very oddly and has a typo. Tried to make a joke with it, didn’t land, whatever. I would change the title myself but it appears I’m not able to.
Bubble tea is too calorific to be much help with cooling
This dessert shop near Zhongshan MRT is very nice
I imagine shaved ice has just as much calories, but for about 15 to 30 minutes after eating shaved ice I feel cool even in this summer heat.
I know there’s smoothies but they don’t bring near the same level of cooling for some reason.
Will try get there before summer ends. Car park in the area?
I do wonder about that? One has more water (ice) so I think less
Only scooter or U-bike there, so unsure.
