Lerman is a one-man melodic black/death metal project from Thailand, formed in 2001, holding a unique position within the Southeast Asian underground scene. Their early demo Vividness in Dreams was featured on a local magazine compilation, followed by the release of their debut album Killuminance in 2004, which quickly sold out its 500-copy run and established the project’s cult status within the scene.
Lerman’s sound is rooted in the traditions of 90s melodic death metal, fused with the cold atmosphere of black metal, resulting in a style that is both fluid and razor-sharp. The guitar riffs are highly melodic and dynamic, carrying a strong European melodeath lineage, while the pacing remains energetic and aggressive. High-pitched shrieks add a piercing intensity and tension throughout. Their overall sound evokes the classic Nordic feel of bands like Dark Tranquillity, Dissection, and early Catamenia.
Although Lerman was only active for four years before disbanding, they have reunited after a 21-year hiatus. Their work still holds an important place in the history of Thai melodic death/black metal, especially for listeners drawn to traditional melodic structures and the spirit of the 90s. It wasn’t until this year, when Deströyer 666 and Midnight performed in Bangkok, that Lerman finally unveiled themselves with their first-ever live appearance. Now, to celebrate their resurrection, they are making a special one-day appearance in Taipei—an exclusive chance to witness this Thai cult act come to life.
