Can anyone tell me where to buy this in powder form? Would a Chinese herbal shop carry it?
Thanks
Trinity definitely. But it’s pretty easy to find in normal spice aisles - many supermarkets carry it.
As others have mentioned, I’ve found it at PX Mart, as well as in the spice section of Carrefour. If you’re in Taoyuan you can also find turmeric, and just about any seasoning, at this baking store:
OK Great. Many thanks.
TCM will sell whole dried, and you can pay them to powder it (they tend not to be ultra clean, so expect some other random stuff in the powder, I wouldn’t give it to kids/pregnant people etc). But many companies, online or stores, sell it now.
Sorry but what is TCM ?
Traditional Chinese Medicine
My uncle-in-law preserves tumeric roots which he grows himself in some kind of alcohol, probably rice wine.
Yeah, you can sometimes find those too. I’ve got some in the fridge. A bit annoying to peel, but I use them from time to time.
The powder is easy to find. I think most supermarkets stock it nowadays. I usually get it from Trinity.
A trick for “peeling”. Wet the rhizome and use a steel wool type thung for dishes. Gets just eboutside off and doesn’t waste much like a peeler would. Same for ginger, galangal etc.
