Ukraine Invaded by the Russians - April to August 2022

They’ll bitch and moan like the pathetic excuse for a nation they are, and threaten everyone with nuclear weapons again. Yawn.

If they could sign a pact with the Nazis again, maybe they would try to invade Finland again. The only Nazis are in Moscow and their own propaganda now, though.

Your cartoon was right.

That is the best-case scenario we can all hope for.
The ugly problem with Putin is he’s a first-striker. Won’t wait to see a build-up across the pond from his northwestern frontier. Reading chatter that Putin may not even run for President again in 2024 due to either health or other reasons. He’s a moderate.
If he doesn’t run, a Russian version of a neocon will likely take over. All kinds of negative things on the horizon leading up to 2024.

I don’t think so, it’s just symbolic and not seriously a threat to them. It’s not like we’re going to build up an invasion force there. NATO or no NATO there’s no way they’re striking Finland without an equivalent response from the west. Unless they deliberately want to start a war, in which case if Finland isn’t the reason they’ll just find another one. No point worrying about that except to get ready, which we should be doing anyway. Putin or some other zombie will be more or less the same I’m sure, unless there’s really some kind of coup.

Why does the gate point outwards when the soldiers arrive and leave, then it is pointing inwards when the two turn back?
There is more footage which shows when the shooting occurs, the yellow car is not present in the background as shown in this still from the footage.

Anyway, there should be independent investigators not compromised or connected with anything NATO, Russia, China or Ukraine looking into any crimes committed by Russian, Ethnic Russian Militias, Ukrainian and Ukrainian Nazi soldiers or even foreign mercenaries. Not many investigators around, probably.

Why countries join NATO. Hint: Decisions based on their own autonomy as sovereign nations and the Russian threat which they know all too well.

There’s no way they didn’t know it was going to happen either.

I’m amazed there are actual Russian apologists here. Never seen one in the wild before, aside from obvious paid trolls on social media.

This is all Putin’s fault. Ukraine was no threat to Russia. I agree that NATO expansion could be seen as “threatening”, but in reality, none of NATO, Europe or America wanted to invade Russia. We have never been a threat to their territory.

If Ukraine wants to “join” with the west, what’s wrong with that? If Putin doesn’t like it, he could have tried offering them something better. Try being a better partner that other countries will actually want to work with. Instead he resorted to violence, terrorism, nuclear threats and blackmail.

He took Crimea and the west kinda shrugged it off. Instead of being satisfied with that, and getting away with it, he has escalated and it has turned into an epic miscalculation. Now he earns himself:

Sanctions on himself and his contacts

Immense damage to the Russian economy

Trashing the reputation of Russia and Russians worldwide

Strategic alienation, especially as the EU becomes independent of Russian energy. Once they’ve moved away they won’t be coming back, no matter what happens in Russia

Turning Ukraine and Zelensky into heroes in the eyes of billions. In January I bet most Europeans or Americans couldn’t find Ukraine on a map. In reality, it’s a poor, fairly corrupt and crappy country. Now they had a massive positive publicity boost

Earning himself a 1,000km+ border with NATO, when Finland joins

Germany and others spending €110B+ on their militaries

Uniting the EU. For the most part, most petty disputes and rifts are ignored

Repairing EU-UK relations

Closening US-UK and US-EU relations

Huge damage to his military. Some of his most skilled troops are dead. Lots of equipment is destroyed or captured, and it will be difficult to replace. Hard to build anything advanced when you don’t have any more access to microchips. Now they’ll have to source from black markets.

And finally, the CIA and MI6 will be having a LOT of fun taking apart all the various Russian tech which Ukraine has captured.

So even if Putin does manage to walk away with a bit of land from Eastern Ukraine, is that a “win”? A bunch of bombed out, impoverished, towns with ruined infrastructure. More land mass, which Russia wasn’t exactly short of.

Or even in the short run. How much of that $40B is profit margin for US defense contractors?

On a side note, pretty much the only other person even objecting to all this is Ilhan Omar. She and Rand Paul make an unlikely pair.

Apparently Putin has cancer?

Nonsense, this is the posture of a man in peak health!

The U.S. is at war.
Hoyer, please retire. Go golfing.

I can understand those who tacitly support Putin’s invasion of Ukraine if they supported Bush’s invasion of Iraq. They’re just being consistent.

The motivation of those who supported the invasion of Iraq but oppose the invasion of Ukraine is a bit murkier though.

It would help if the editors at the Express knew that Finland is actually NOT a “Scandinavian country”; it’s Nordic but not Scandinavian.

Oh if that ruffles your feathers, check this ridiculous line put out from Express!

Taiwan, formerly the island of Formosa, was the last stronghold of Mao Zedong’s triumphant Communist army after elements of the defeated nationalist Kuomintang military retreated to the eastern island in 1949.

Braindead sources and the unfortunate implications of posting them aside, back to topic -

Finland has every right to join NATO. Kremlin made their bed, now they will have to lie in it. At least they seem to have a few here that wouldn’t at all mind volunteering to keep them warm while they are though. :smirk:
