Ukraine Invaded by the Russians - April to August 2022

The Finns in that war gave the Russians a hard time with the result of Russia ‘loosing’ in the wider context.

Nobody won.

Everyone loses, and that’s what’s happening in Ukraine. There is not going to be any winning done that’s for sure.

Nah, clear win for Russia in the wider scope.

  1. Gained Finnish territories, including vital Petsamo nickel mines.
  2. Finnish war reparations to be paid for many years.
  3. Finnish army to kick out and attack Germans in Finland.
  4. Finnish shipping and soliders’ assistance to help invade Estonian islands.
  5. Finlandisation.
  6. Russian army freed up to chase Germans into Norway and the rest of the Eastern Front.

Anyway, for Ukraine, yes everybody loses. What a horrible mess.

The fact that Russia failed to overrun Finland was a major factor that lead to the Nazis dramatically underestimating the Russian military. It might arguably have been a ‘win’ if Russia took Finland, but that is not what happened

I think we are talking about two different things here, you are on the 1939 Winter War, while I speak of the decisive Continuation War, which ended as per above in 1944 with the final Finnish concessions, ie very much a loss.

Germany’s opinions were, ofc, at that point rather irrelevant. And at that point there were juicier fish to fry for Russia in Central Europe than relatively impoverished Finland.

If Finland had lost it wouldn’t be a sovereign state. There are large Finnish language speaking areas in Russia too. Also the war you refer to was the Nazi puppet one? The decisive one was the winter war

As it was, their sovereignty was barely hanging on, re: “Finlandisation”. Only now, with NATO membership coming are they finally moving totally out of the Russian orbit. Hard sell for any Finns in 1944 to call that a “win”, with so many lives lost to war.

Again, they got lucky in that at that point Stalin was hungrier for as much push as possible in juicier Central Europe, rather than conquering a bunch of forested lakes.

Whats a war win only violent people who think they are justified in that violence.

Oxymoron.

No win.

Doesn’t mean everyone who takes up arms is unlustifed, but most are

The illusion of choice. “You can choose the witch or the duck.” But ducks are also witches. Proof: subject them to trial by water and they float.

Does anyone still harbor delusions about how important Europe is to the United States?

So the US won’t sanction India for helping Russia, because we need India against China.

Congress is trying to expedite arms delivery to Taiwan, while we’re still dragging out feet on sending them to Ukraine, in a war going on right now.

P.S. Although there is strong bipartisan anti-China sentiment right now, most of the military action bills only have Republican support. Democrats are pussies. I guarantee you China will wait until a Dem administration is in power when they invade.

P.S.S. We should get Ukraine what it needs as soon as possible.

there was a conversation about witches and ducks。

“If Berlin refuses Russian energy resources, supply chains will be disrupted, and not only at Bosch,” Hartung emphasized.
According to the businessman, the consequences will be much more serious than from the coronavirus pandemic. In the worst-case scenario, Germany could lose “the industrial basis of its economic power.”

Are Germany/EU politicians really going to destroy their prime industrial base?
Unimaginable, yet, so far, that appears to be their plan.

This administration needs to stop being afraid of Putin. Don’t be a pussy!

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-11/russian-current-account-surplus-surges-to-record-on-energy-sales

The surplus in the current account, the broadest measure of trade and investment flows, reached $58.2 billion last quarter, more than double the $22.5 billion reported a year earlier, the Bank of Russia said Monday.
Bloomberg Economics expects Russia will earn nearly $321 billion from energy exports this year, an increase of more than a third from 2021. It’s also on track for a current-account surplus that the Institute of International Finance says may reach as high as $240 billion.

Z-SWIFT sanctions aren’t working. It helps when Russia is hardly importing anything as western foreign firms leave.
