Just saw a bit of Wimbledon with a Croat tennis player called Karolina Sprem. Reminded me of the FCUK advertising campaign.
Anybody know of any other sports stars with odd/embarrassing names? I remeber a French rugby player called Jean Condom.
Winter sport enthusiasts would surely remember:
Irina Slutskaya, the Russian ice skating queen who won a few European (also World ?) ice dancing gold medals in 2001 and 2002.
Don’t know how it’s pronounced or what it means in Russian, but an unfortunate suggestive name for the English audience, given that she’s a winsome girl with an athletic build and long legs, and had to perform on skates in those obligatory super-short tutu with the butt-revealing tight briefs…

Not unfortunate, but there was a guy by the name of Irv Eatman who used to play for the Oilers/Titans of the NFL. Considering that he was a massive lineman, the name was bloody cool and fit him so well. :bravo:

MLB Pitcher Bob Walk.
I know of a hockey player in the NHL named Satan (pronounced “Sattan”).
I also still think the name “Magic Johnson” is hilarious (sounds more like a porno star’s name than a basketball player).
And though this isn’t sports related, the worst name of any person I ever encountered in my life was probably a kid named Shithead (pronounced “shih-theed”).
