Union Bank overseas withdrawal

When I went to my local Union Bank branch to ask if I could withdraw money from overseas they said yes and had me set up separate PIN (4 digit) for overseas withdrawal.

Anyone else ever attempted an overseas withdrawal with Union Bank?

It sure would suck to leave Taiwan and to have money that had been deposited and to not be able to get it out.

Any random advice is appreciated.

The pin overseas ATM’s accept is often 4 digits max, while in Taiwan it is usually 6 digits.
This out of the way you should be fine.

Just make sure you know and adjust your overseas ATM withdrawal limits accordingly.
And the overseas ATM must support the network (VISA, MASTERCARD, etc.) your card uses.

Ideally you would transfer your money out of the country before you leave. Then you can be sure there are no problems.

I wrongly assumed i would be able to access my Union Bank App from abroad. I cant.

I tried using a VPN so the app thinks i am in Taiwan. Didnt work.

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that.
My 2 Taiwan banks’ apps can be used abroad without VPN.

I do distinctly remember being at bank counter while the counter lady had the bank app “recognize” my smartphone for app usage.

It might block common VPN servers.

Send me your banking details and password, I’ll let you know if I’m able to transfer money.

Annoying as hell because i consolidated funds in this account because i think the APP is easy to use. I would have been better leaving the money where it was.

I tried expressvpn. Should i try others?

PM me.

Weird. All my bank apps (that I’ve tried) have worked from abroad.

Have you checked whether it’s the same for online banking from an actual computer?

Never used online banking for this bank on an actual computer. That is what my wife just suggested.

It’s just a coincidence, honestly. I haven’t been talking to your wife.
