Unique benefits of apartments in Taiwan

For a single person who probably has 3 dirty dishes and 2 dirty cups, 1 dirty pot per day, it probably takes at least 3 days to fully load up the dishwasher. Again, what’s the point?

Not true.

If you had a 20 year old dishwasher 20 years ago then maybe it was different…but a new dishwasher in 2003 did just fine.

You still need to load the dish washer, then unload it and re-stack your dishes and pots and pans.

I don’t have the right tablets for the dishwasher we have here. Leaves the dishes with some residue on them. So practically speaking never even get to use it.

i like the bathrooms where you can spray water everywhere  , cant do that in the USA or Europe

The powder works better than the tablets.

Also dishwashers are more hygienic. They kill more germs than hand washing so you’ll get sick less often if the dishes are washed in the machine. They also use significantly less water than hand washing

More hygienic sure, probably, but no one should be getting sick from hand washing their dishes at home. If that happens ever, they must be doing a really abysmal job of washing dishes. Like leaving chunks of old food on there or something.

I’m pretty sure the amount of “germs” a person is exposed to in the course of a day isn’t significantly affected by whether they use dishes that were washed in a machine or by hand (with the possible exception of street food places etc. washing dishes under a tap in the gutter and stuff like that).

If you can get an apartment with a woman living inside of it, you may not have to even do that.

That is so sexism.

Maybe there’s more involved.

Abstract

Background and objective: The hygiene hypothesis stipulates that microbial exposure during early life induces immunologic tolerance via immune stimulation, and hence reduces the risk of allergy development. Several common lifestyle factors and household practices, such as dishwashing methods, may increase microbial exposure. The aim of this study was to investigate if such lifestyle factors are associated with allergy prevalence.

Methods: Questionnaire-based study of 1029 children aged 7 to 8 years from Kiruna, in the north of Sweden, and Mölndal, in the Gothenburg area on the southwest coast of Sweden. Questions on asthma, eczema, and rhinoconjunctivitis were taken from the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire.

Results: Hand dishwashing was associated with a reduced risk of allergic disease development (multivariate analysis, odds ratio 0.57; 95% confidence interval: 0.37-0.85). The risk was further reduced in a dose-response pattern if the children were also served fermented food and if the family bought food directly from farms.

Conclusions: In families who use hand dishwashing, allergic diseases in children are less common than in children from families who use machine dishwashing. We speculate that a less-efficient dishwashing method may induce tolerance via increased microbial exposure.

Better not to though, or will get moldy quick. Rather scrape most of the water down the drain and dry with those hot air blower things in the ceiling (not sure what it’s called).

The houses I’ve lived in in Taiwan were always very well ventilated and/or air conditioned so the bathroom dried very quickly

We did use this super sponge mop that was awesome and mopped up the floor in a minute

Yes if you kept the door shut things will mold fast in taiwans humidity

In America it’s amazing how moldy the shower curtain got in a week so we had to NOT use plastic ones and instead use cloth ones that we can wash every two max three days

And when there is a shower door it has to be sponge cleaned often.

We have green mold and pink mold and yellow mold and black mold in our Bay Area homes

Ugh

I try to keep things at bay but can’t use bleach as the closed off toilet doesn’t get enough circulation so it’s mostly scrubbing with dish soap and now I found the use of vinegar to be helpful

Spray the walls with vinegar and it’s not dangerous to us and it smells a bit like being in a winery

Win win

It doesn’t kill black mold , takes a lot to kill black mold but it keeps the green the pink and the yellow mold at bay with its slight acidity

No no horrible idea there is a lot of wet in the bathroom mis aimed pee and the wet coming out of the shower stall

The Bay Area bathrooms I’ve lived in were tiled not water proof but at least you can mop them easily and we use bathroom floor mats we wash weekly and immediately if needed

Carpeted bathrooms would be a horrible idea in my view

Oh you mean like you don’t want your obit to read:

And Andrew his accomplishments in life were….well he got done in by his tea towel
Why didn’t he air dry??

I have a woman living inside my home and ….im still the one doing the dishes which was fine as long as there is a dishwasher

And I do not let the woman load the machine because the same said woman has no idea behind the principle of how these machines work !!! She his no idea the things being washed must be able to drain

And I often found that after hours of the machine doing its load and drying that the dishes are not dry and are suspect because she put a cup in there right side up so now there is a cup full of soapy water in the load

And the whole thing has to be repeated

So the woman is WARNED to just put dirty dishes in the sink

Now in sf the house is built in 1946 and has no dishwasher and putting one in will mean a kitchen remodel and 40000 dollars so I have to hand wash

There are two sinks side by side so it’s the old fashion way of filling in one sink with hot soapy water and the other sink with fresh water for rinsing

I have to always tell her since each item has to be individually hand washed pls put the oily dishes in one sink and the dishes that don’t require a lot of work in the other

She mixes them up so for sure each item is now an oily item requiring more work

I sure miss the dishwasher !!!

The trick is to keep the woman out of the kitchen now unless she wants to cook

Which she does wonderfully except I now have a huge load of pots and pans to clean

Why does it take five pots and three pans to cook dinner ? At least the meal was great !

So yes the problems of being a modern man and sharing house work

She cooks I clean (better than me cook and she cleans) she cleans the house I do laundry (again better than the reverse)

Yes it would be better like in the old days where the woman takes care of the house and doesn’t work a job outside the home while the man earns the daily bread

Many women are now realizing that they missed out on a lot of freedom by insisting on equality between the sexes and now have to work outside the home as well as inside of it

I didn’t read any of your last four posts @tommy525. Just skimmed them.

EDIT: To be fair I’ve read them in more detail now and there is some useful information.

Sounds like she’s got you well trained, tommy

Yup and I do my best not to pee outside of the box
